I loved Olivier Bergeron, who jumped from 8 to 4. He should have been 3rd in my cards, but judges know better. Edrian Celestino reminded me of the excellent Japanese skaters. The winner was almost flawless, but slightly boring for me. Sorry Joseph, maybe he needs a different choreography, or it is just my taste.

Conrad Orzel is still 14, according to the on-screen bio in the rink. (it's annoying that the event merchandise booth doesn't have media guides available, since checking birthdates of young skaters is one of the many things they're really helpful for. And the jumbotron isn't showing music in Halifax).

The article linked above mentioned Conrad's focus on jumps. He still needs to work a lot on the rest of his skating, and particularly transitions, but having a 3A at 14 is a good base for possible JGP assignments. And coming back after a really hard fall on his first axel attempt, followed by a fall on the 3z, to land 3a/3t, was amazing.
Was also very pleased to see Eric Liu, another 14 year old, back skating after quitting for a year, and moving from 12th to 7th with the 5th place free skate. He's grown A LOT since I last saw him two years ago.

I also notice that Eric Liu has changed coaches from Mcleod to Walia. I think this move will be good for his development.

Hopefully we will secure 14 JGP spots for these skaters. Among the novice men, I can see Samuel Turcotte ( sadly injured for nationals ) getting a JGP slot. He landed a nice 3S-3R at the challenge. Obviously Gogolev is still too young for JGP.
