Last year's Irish Nationals were held in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Well, this year they are being held further afield...

Name: 2016 Irish National Figure Skating Championships

Date: 13[SUP]th[/SUP] – 14[SUP]th[/SUP] March 2016

Venue: Lee Valley Ice Centre, London, England

Levels: Basic Novice B to Senior

More Info: http://isai.ie/events/87/National-Figure-Skating-Championships-2016

Incidentally, the ISAI website ( http://isai.ie/ ) has been given an overhaul, and they are now putting out official communications. So, it looks like they are trying to be much more professional about things.

Today, the ISAI announced details of a competition to be held in Blanchardstown (a suburb of Dublin) a few weeks before Nationals.

Name: 2016 Winter Challenge

Date: 20[SUP]th[/SUP] February 2016

Venue: Ice Skating Blanchardstown, Dublin, Ireland

Levels: "all National Levels up to Gold, including Adults"

More Info: http://isai.ie/events/86/Winter-Challenge-2016

So, all the best to everybody taking part in these competitions!

OK, I've got fed up waiting for the detailed results and / or the protocols from the Irish Championships to be posted. So, since it is St. Patrick's Day, here is a summary.

Clara Peters retained the Senior Ladies title.

Conor Stakelum retained the Senior Men's title.

Ciara Hoey retained the Junior Ladies title.

And now for the important one for me:

In his first Irish Championships since switching from Great Britain, my fellow Ulsterman, Sam McAllister, won the Junior Men's title!!!! :cheer:   :party2: :points:

Alex Bowker-Lonnecker retained the Advanced Novice Men's title.

Elizabeth Golding won her first Advanced Novice Ladies title.

Sophia Tkacheva retained the Basic Novice Ladies title.

Here is the story of the Championships on the ISAI website:

When I first found out the dates, I did find it strange that it was being held on a Monday. But, I have now realised that this strange day was chosen because Clara was competing at the Coupe de Printemps at the weekend, and it was to give her a chance to get back after doing her Free Skate in Luxembourg on Sunday afternoon. (Incidentally, she finished 12[SUP]th[/SUP] in the SP, 10[SUP]th[/SUP] in the FS and 11[SUP]th[/SUP] overall - Results / Entries Page)

This year, the Irish Championships were held as part of the Skate Southern International event (Entries / Results Page)

Sophia Tkacheva stayed on to compete in the single-round "Basic Novice A Ladies age 12 & under" competition, where she finished 17[SUP]th[/SUP] out of 33 in the FS.

Alex Bowker-Lonnecker had been entered in the Advanced Novice Men's competition, but withdrew. And Sam McAllister also withdrew from the Senior Men's competition.

Congratulations to everybody on all your results!!! :cheer:   :party2: :points:
