Much more skaters than last year. Some skaters will skip this event to go to Senior worlds (Denis Margalik, Julian Zhi Jie Yee, Kailani Craine), some others will probably do both (Elizabet Tursynbaeva, Angelina Kuchvalska - which is very surprising, she only competed senior this season)

No korean pair, I thought Kyu-Eun Kim & Alex Kam reached the TES (22 for SP at Bavarian Open, 36 for FP at Sarajevo Open), but they are not listed on the season technical scores list... maybe because Alex competed with another girl at the beginning of the season?

46 LADIES!!! :eeking:
I bet by the end the judges will be giving out new SBs like freebies just to get done with the competition.

I hope, if Korea want to have a competitive pair in Pyeongchang, they should start to compete now :)
I wondered if maybe the Sarajevo Open scores finally didn't have count, but the scores reached at this event for russian senior pair Shevchenko/Beach seems to be valid.

I hope that KyuEun Kim / Alex Kam can compete at Junior Worlds.

Questions:

(1) Was Sarajevo their first international comp together?

Or did they already meet the SP minimum TES (20.00) elsewhere before Saravejo??

Their SP TES in Sarajevo was 19.80.
http://www.ksbih.ba/SO2016/SEG007.HTM

I am going by the TES minimums for 2016 Junior Worlds that were published in July 2015.
Did the minimums get revised?

(I assume that Alex's scores with Yeri would not count.)

(2) Their FS TES in Sarajevo of 36.96 theoretically did meet the FS minimum TES (30.00).

But ... I am wondering whether it matters that Sarajevo had only one junior pair entry -- no one else besides KyuEun/Alex.

Meaning that the event would not meet the ISU criteria for an international comp, I fear?
And that KyuEun/Alex's scores there would not qualify as TES minimums earned at an international comp, I fear?

I am not sure, but I am wondering. I hope that I am wrong.
I too had seen Alex's Instagram comment after Sarajevo about going to Junior Worlds, and I was excited for them.

Interesting. Tursynbaeva skipped Euros to do YOG but is doing JW and presumably Worlds, too. She could potentially move up in the World Rankings into the top 12 for Worlds if she finishes in the top 4 at JW, which she did last year.

Nope, she skipped 4CC to do YOG. She wanted to do 4CC too, but the dates of both events were too close.

Btw. I'm sad that neither Vivian Le nor Emily Chan will compete :(

Not sending Vivian here (nor at YOG) shows once again that USFSA doesn't know how to handle their athletes. She is super talented, but needs international experience! They could have rewarded Tyler and Bradie in other ways for their good national performances ( like some CS assignments next season) and let skaters who had a full Junior season go to JUNIOR worlds as it would be logical...

for the 1st point, they have reached the TES for the short program at the Bavarian Open, last week-end. It was the last possibility to reach TES for Junior Worlds, the kazakh pair Khokhlova/Baitkanov got it.

for the 2nd point, if I'm right, the number of competitors make them non eligible to get ISU ranking points, but eligible to get TES. If not, they wouldn't have made the trip to Sarajevo, as they knew before the start of the competition that they'll be the only pair competing.

Maybe is it just a technical error, somebody could have forgot to add the junior pair event at Sarajevo to the season technical scores list.
So when KSU sent the entry list, ISU estimated that Kim/Kam doesn't meet the TES criteria and have removed them from the list...?

Thx, Nirti :).
Please forgive me for being dumb :hopelessness: on two counts:
(1) I overlooked that your OP had given Kim/Kam's SP score from the Bavarian Open. :bang:
(2) LOL, I even had seen that Alex had posted one or more Instagram photos from Oberstdorf, but I totally blanked out re the Bavarian Open.

I agree that it would have been weird for them to go to Sarajevo knowing that their scores would not count.
Hope that it will work out for them to compete at Junior Worlds.

Regarding YOG... a separate comp was used for qualifying for YOG... I think it was i the rules that it had to be a qualifying comp (that is what some on FSuniverse have been saying). So USFSA could not just send Vivian, she would have had to compete at the qualifier to go.

Weather or not it was a good idea, or the right comp to use, or if it was publicized properly, that is all a different issue. But they could not just use Nationals to make the assignments, and they can't really force skaters to take part in the qualifier.

As for the rest. I agree... i am not a fan of this straddling of junior and senior. I would have preferred to see Emily and Vivian at junior worlds than Tyler and Brandie. Tyler especially had done a great job of establishing herself as a senior and I think she should have stayed there. Brandie was at least on the JGP and last year's domestic junior champ. I am a little more ok with juniors doing the straddle when they have already won the junior title.

Last year 148 points was good enough for 10th place but this year one most likely needs to score about 160 points to make it at TOP 10. Maybe even above 160 points.

Also in pairs we will most likely see a very high quality event. Last year 140 points was good enough for 4th place. That will not happen this year because we will have 5 very good pairs and atleast 4 of them have a good chance to score over 160 points.

Update:

Kim/Kam indeed are not going to Junior Worlds -- as confirmed by Alex's most recent post on Instagram. Excerpt:

alex_kambam
Sadly, we are unable to attend Junior worlds because of certain rules and difficulties even though we earned the technical scores. Nevertheless, I'm proud of what we've achieved over the last two months despite several setbacks ...

:(

These 46 ladies will all go through FS or they will cut it down after SP?

Yes, per the rules for ISU championships:

24 ladies, 24 men, and 16 pairs advance to the FS.

And IIRC, 20 dance couples advance to the FD.
