As bramweld and Icedinn pointed out, Alla and her partner seem to be on two different wavelengths, i.e., they are not "skating as one". That is a potential time bomb in ice dance and can lead to the disastrous fall we saw in the SD.

I happen to know Hal Marron (the US tech controller here) quite well. He sat with me during a few national and international SDs & FDs when he was not on the panel, explaining in detail all of the deductions each couple should get in their programs. He is a former ice dancer and pair skater and is also an international judge in singles, pairs as well as ice dance.

Lucky you!! I loved listening to Judy Blumberg on the "B" stream at US Nationals as she explained the reasons behind the levels being given by the tech panel. Educating the viewer is so important under IJS

I still haven't found other sources....which is weird if it's said it's so on the ISU bio....

Now I really want to write something ridiculous about how that might've happened. Except I don't know whether or not it would actually turn out to be true. But it'd be nuts either way. :p

The overscoring of US teams was so beyond ridiculous that I had to see who was the tech controller, and I really wasn't surprised that there was a American tech controller.

Please bear in mind that the technical controller is one of only three people on the panel who are calling elements. The technical specialist, not the technical controller, is the primary person who calls the elements. If the technical specialist and the assistant technical specialist do not agree on a call, then the technical controller makes the decision. I also know Hal personally, and he is a person of great fairness and integrity.

Absolutely - which is why I think those recent competitors (not currently competing) but who know the recent tech rules should be on the TV commentating team. Judy certainly knows her stuff as she is an international tech specialist in ice dance.

I just got caught up on the Short Dance, and on this thread, and wow I missed out by not following all this live. Parsons pass McNamara/Carpenter, Loboda falls at the very end of her program, a probably-not-but-maybe secret marriage? I love ice dance!

In all seriousness, this year the judges more and more often seem to be rewarding the best skates at the competition and not necessarily the highest rated team. If this trend continues Boston will be an incredible fight. I'm looking forward to the Free Dance tomorrow more than the Ladies FS.

Totally.

We should have a contest to see who can come up with the best story to explain how those bios came about.
I'm sure that would dig up some real gems :laugh2:

They got hacked? Not a great story, but the question is which of their rinkmates did it? Maybe Zach Donohue? ;)
