Just to let you know that the Entries / Results Page is now online:

http://www.isuresults.com/results/season1516/wjc2016/

Consequently, I have replaced the links to the Provisional Entry Lists in the Original Post of this thread with tables containing the Final Entry Lists.

So, now we can make our predictions knowing who is actually there! ;)

By the way, for those that are interested, I now have the ISU Junior Game spreadsheet sorted alphabetically, and the YOG Team Hall Of Fame post completed.

I sense that this competition will be Wakaba's comeback moment this season. Not sure how she'll place against Tsurskaya but I'm sure she'll be on the podium. Kinda sad that Masha might be pushed to bronze since I really like her Black Magic SP but her LP is just :noshake:...(but that's my opinion). Still bummed that Sohyun is not going to be here since I do think she has a better consistency record AND a higher international total score than Hanul and Suh-hyun even with the lower TES. But I guess I have to accept it....:sad21:

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE FIELD HERE!?!?! With Sota and Nathan out, this event just got waaay more unpredictable. I'm pretty sure Daniel/Dmitri/Deniss will lead the field but where do we go from there? Anyway, Go bb-Cha! Wishing that he's healthy and ready to go in this competition. :drama:

I don't really follow Jr. Pairs....So I'm just basing it on consistency and SBs and which Canadian pair has the better scores.

I don't follow Jr. Ice Dance a lot either but I sense a come-back moment from the Parsons and a gold-silver sweep for Team USA. Now wondering what's happening to the Team Canada's JR team? A rebuilding period perhaps? (or I'm expecting way too much?)

If the absolute PB scores are anything to go by, the battle for the Men’s title is going to be tight. Only 7 points covering the Top 4! :drama: And the next 2, although they have lower absolute PB’s, should also be in the reckoning.

With the way the season has gone so far, Dmitri Aliev was always going to the top of the predictions list. Of the 6 guys that I see as being in contention, he and Alexander Samarin are the only ones that have had 2 gold medals. But Aliev is the only one to have won 5 medals. The only competition he did not win a medal in was Senior Nationals, where he finished 6th. But we all know how competitive the Russian Championships are!

However, I see his main competition coming from Daniel Samohin. Although Samohin did not have a good Junior GP Final, he has been VERY consistent all season. He won gold or silver medals in 4 of the 6 competitions he competed in. Not only that, but the gold and one of the silvers came in Senior competitions. His absolute PB came at the Mordovian Ornament, which I always discount. But, his next highest score came from Europeans, where he finished as high as 7th. OK, so on paper this was his lowest finishing position of the season. But, this was a great achievement for somebody who normally competes in Juniors to be up amongst the top Senior skaters.

So, I was happy enough with keeping the absolute PB order for these two. However, I was not happy with the order it produced for the next 4.

Nicholas Nadeau was 3rd by absolute PB. But, we don’t really know much about his form because he has only done 4 competitions this season. 2 of them were in Senior competitions in Canada, and they produced the 2 highest scores of his career. The Nationals score was only 3 points higher than his best Junior GP score. But, the Senior B score was a LOT higher than anything he has ever scored. Which makes you wonder. So, to be on the safe side, I’m leaning more towards his Nationals score.

Using Nadeau’s Nationals score only actually dropped him one place, promoting Samarin to the podium. And I felt this was much more representative.

Zhou’s absolute PB from Sectionals was lower than the 2 scores that I was using for Nadeau. But, all his scores this season were a LOT higher than Nadeau’s lowest score. This created a dilemma. But, I kept Zhou behind, purely because, at the end of the day, Nadeau had 3 scores higher than Zhou’s absolute PB.

I would have liked to promote Deniss Vasiljevs. After all, I like the guy, and he has been on the podium four times out of 6 competitions. HOWEVER, then you look at the scores, and you see that they are a LOT lower than the likes of Aliev, Samohin and Samarin. So, I kept him in 6th position, and used him as my alternate.

After this, I just kept it by absolute PB order. Although, I did find it interesting that there were a whole pile of unfamiliar names throughout the list, and a few familiar names that were a lot lower on the list than I would have expected.

When I came to make my Pairs predictions, I went into it with the same bullish attitude that I did with the Youth Olympics: I was putting Dušková / Bidař at the top even though I knew that Borisova / Sopot were ahead of them on pretty much everything going.

But then I did the sorting, and got a shock. The couple that were way down in 12th when the entries were ordered by ISU PB, Anastasia Mishina / Vladislav Mirzoev, were actually at the top of the list when ordered by absolute PB! :jaw:

They got an absolute monster score at the Bavarian Open a month ago! It was so big that I actually went to the original Entries/Results page to see if the wrong number had been put into Stats On Ice. But, it was correct (although, the original page has been taken down. I had to look at the archived version).

The Bavarian Open just turned everything on it’s head for my predictions. Not only did Mishina / Mirzoev move ahead of Dušková / Bidař due to their scores there, but so did Oganesian / Bardei. Also, Gubanova/ Sintsov moved ahead thanks to their score at Nationals.

Although Mishina / Mirzoev have won the Junior competition at the Bavarian Open the past 2 years, they have only done one Junior GP. So, I am nearly completely unfamiliar with them. Consequently, I decided to be cautious with them, and slipped them into 5th place.

The 4 couples that I put ahead of them were the 4 couples I was always going to put at the top. But, in light of recent results, I put them in a slightly different order than I was planning. I still put Dušková / Bidař at the top with Borisova / Sopot in second, but I switched the next 2 around, so that Oganesian / Bardei were in third rather than Gubanova/ Sintsov as I intended.

With the rest of them, I just kept them in absolute PB order. Although I recognised most of the names, I couldn’t remember what I thought of them from the Junior GP Series. Although, there were no results for Gao / Li on Stats On Ice, so for them I used their ISU PB.

It was a similar situation with Ice Dance. I had an order in my head before I came to do it, but then there were some couples that had higher absolute PB’s than I was expecting. The difference here is that they were achieved at competitions held in their own countries (Sectionals, Senior B’s).

Again, there was one couple amongst them that I were not on my radar at all. Although they did 2 Junior GP’s this year, finishing 3rd and 4th in them, Elliana Pogrebinsky / Alex Benoit just did not stick in my mind.

Their absolute PB came at Sectionals (157.03), while their next highest came at Nationals(155.94) . Their International PB is 142.85, which would put them down in 9th place on the absolute PB list.

I don’t want to take too many places away from Pogrebinsky / Benoit, so decided to do the same as I did with Mishina / Mirzoev in Pairs: put them in 5th place, and working my other predictions around this. The problem was that this would split up a group of skaters with VERY close absolute PB’s. And this would drop them to 7th, which I did not think was fair.

Another problem was that the couple at the back of this group (Popova / Vlasenko) was a couple that I always intended to put in my Top 5. HOWEVER, then I noticed that the couple ahead of them (Abachkina / Thauron) had a significantly smaller ISU PB to the others. So, this was my excuse to put Popova / Vlasenko and Pogrebinsky / Benoit ahead of them.

This meant that the five couples that were left ahead are the ones that I was intending putting in my Top 5! Of these, I only made one change. I moved Popova / Vlasenko up to 4th, ahead of Lauriault / le Gac.

It’s not that I have anything against the French, moving both couples down. I just fancy Popova / Vlasenko to do better than them. Especially when you consider how the 3 couples got on in the Junior GP Series (Popova / Vlasenko and Lauriault / le Gac both got a gold and a silver in their GP’s, but in the Final the Russians were in 4th and the French were in 5th. Abachkina / Thauron got a 2nd and 4th, and didn’t qualify for the Final).

For the rest, I just kept them in absolute PB order.

I’ll do my Men’s predictions first thing in the morning, and the Ladies at some stage whenever I get the time.

Eek! I was so caught up in my Men's predictions, I forgot to post a warning earlier on!

THIS IS YOUR FIFTY FIVE MINUTE WARNING.

You have just 55 minutes left until the target time to get your predictions in, i.e. until 10:00 CET (09:00 GMT)

But, as usual in my Games, this is just a target time so that you are not rushing about at the last minute. Predictions for each category will still be accepted up until the start of that category’s Short Programme.

Please Note: As per the new Rules introduced to the Nationals Game for American and Canadian Championships, if you want to change your predictions after the first SP has started, you have to post the amendments IN A NEW POST. Editing your original post will invalidate your predictions.
