Obviously the leaders of RG are really afraid of being such a Russian sport in this atmosphere and are making moves to make an American successful so it's not eliminated from the Olympics. It's not that Zheng isn't good but why now? That's clear.

I agree, some politics here

US only started getting noticed after American Caroline Hunt became the vice for technical committee was appointed
I don't want RG to turn into Ice Dance or Artistic , a lot of people dont like US in RG as they are afraid it will turn robotic if they dominate
like "Artistic Gymnastics" now

Laura is still young but she's getting 18 already ??
Salome Pazhava of Georgia had to go from scoring high 16s to low 18 in 3 years !!!

I hijacked my skating blog to write a very basic RG primer. Lots of gifs and videos: https://salchowsandswarovskis.wordpress.com/2016/05/22/a-primer-to-rhythmic-gymnastics/

If I didn't already know it, I got most of the information for this from the Gymnastics About.com.

nice read :)

glad RG is being noticed by FS fans
also I'd add Linoy Ashram of Israel, Katsiaryna Halkina, Sabina Ashirbayeva, Nicol Ruprecht, Neviana Vladinova as Top 10 contenders

there are many young gymnasts for next quad
but will probably have break through only after Rio Olympics

Thanks! Due to the lack of easily-accessible schedules and live streams, I can never watch anything live (I often have to poke around on some Russian RG forum if I even want results), but I am trying to learn more about it. So I hope I can expand on it in the future. :)

All-around Results

Son now breaking a 74 mark and close to Rizatdinova and Staniouta's score
strange since her difficulty and risks arent that difficult, they are overscoring her in E mark
looks like they really want Son on a podium in Rio Olympics !!! poor Rizat and Staniouta really need to be clean or else

Of course they are setting the groundwork not for son to medal but to win so that it's not a Russian sport anymore.

i don't think she'll get a 19, her difficulty isn't that high, there is a limit in scoring Execution that is 10 lol
though she definitely has a chance for a medal ; I'd say she's in running along with Rizat, Staniouta, Pazhava for bronze

Okay, seeing that list, I have to :eeking: at the scores...if 80 is the max score, we're getting really close to seeing a perfect score. Wow...

but I don't think we'll ever be seeing another prefect,
there hasn't been a gymnast that has gotten prefect score since Kanaeva, and they have abolished the 30 point judging (removed the Artictic and merged with Execution mark) and returned to the 20 point scoring.

I think 77+ is the highest we can expect at the Olympics :agree:

I really like Son Yeon, but if a non-Russian is going to win, it better be Melitina Staniouta.

In total we have....

-Body Difficulty 7.0 (9) which includes

Jumps & Leaps 2.1 (4)
Balances 0.9 (2)
Rotations 4.0 (3)

-Dance Steps 0.9 (3)
-Risks 1.8 (3)
-Mastery 0.3 (1)

Total:10

Actually, her routine is not so easy when you analyze it. Her strong difficulti is the Fouetté, and the Mastery is included in her routines since she moved to Novogorsk. She uses lots of dance steps, which may be the cause of all that belief of the easy routines. She is really expressive, so try to imagine her with the difficulties of other gymnasts routines... it wouldn´t be her. I will analyze more routines of Son and other gymnasts you want if you want to.

How do Laura Zeng's routines stack up to the top gymnasts? Since she is pretty consistent, I wondered if she isn't more competitive because of low difficulty. How about clubs, since that seems to be one of her strongest events?
