No Denmark? Bummer. I love the Dutch team.

Denmark will be represented by Victoria Gilberg and Mette Hulgaard, according to the nominative entries published in April. No full team.

Oh. No Eythora Thorsdottir? She's one of my favorites.

How do they get to represent Belarus, their surnames indicate other nationality.

If they have Belarusian citizenship, they can represent Belarus. Roxana Popa is Romanian but has been living in Spain and representing Spain.

About the Netherlands..

No, they are not sending a full team. I admit that the Euro championships are a bit of let down because so many Euro teams decided to send B teams as well. It shows how teams like NED and Belgium are not used to being Olympic teams as they have gone into cautious mode by not even sending top girls to Euro's(don't want to risk injury or tiredness I guess). Whereas more established(Russia) and confident(GB) teams are sending their top gymnasts. In some ways it's funny logic because it's good practice for the team competition in Rio. I guess Belgium at least feels they had that practice last month at the test event. Also I guess traditionally the top Euro teams(Romania, Russia) always treated Euros pretty seriously and this year we have top teams actively deciding to not compete, or at least not compete for a team medal. Germany traditionally was a lot stronger than Ned and Belgium but they aren't sending a top team either. Maybe again because of the test event.

EDIT: Actually looking at the list the Belgium team is pretty decent, I kept hearing they were primarily sending B team, but at least half seem A team to me.

Also, for GB Rebecca Tunney is out and Gabrielle Jupp is competing.

It was a bit of talking point amongst gymnastics fans. Basically the Belarussian federation is trying to revamp their artistic program(Nellie Kim is very involved) and I guess it was arranged for these two lower tier American gymnasts to gain Belarussian citizenship. They are a level or two above the Belarussian gymnasts - Kylie Dickson secured a spot for Belarus(well, herself) at the Test Event whereas a Belarussian born would have had less of a chance. Belarus doesn't pay for the two Americans (they are known as Belo - Americans by gymnastics fanatics) as their parents fund them - trips to competitions that the Belarussian fed would have pay for the Belarussian born girls. So, its kind of a win - win for those involved.

There was a lot of talk about it. Apparently it's common in other sports for athletes with no ties to a country to become a citizen so they can compete internationally but not in gymnastics. I mean, YES it is somewhat common but generally only when gymnasts have ties to that country. Many athletes of foreign born parents compete for their parents home country. That happens in all sports. Of course Azerbaijan has a whole host of ex Russian gymnasts competing in their artistic program but many felt the difference was no Russian born athlete was literally taking the place of any Azerbaijan born gymnasts. I know in the women's side at least there weren't any.

I tried to follow this, but couldn't find the live result page. :slink:

Why isn't Zubova in BB EF?

From the looks of it, she got two-per-countried. The top two qualifiers were Russian, so she couldn't have gotten in. Which is sad, because I looked up her beam after you mentioned her earlier and it is delightful.

Update: checked results. Zubova placed 4th in the beam quals but was the 3rd-ranked Russian, so she was indeed per-countried.

ZubZubi got only-2-per-countried off. :(

Overall it was an easy and comfortable win for Russia's WAG team

That horribly irritating moment when you spend twenty minutes looking for a live stream and all of them don't play and redirect you to rather sketchy sites telling you to sign up or download things...:bang:
