His time at the top was so short yet I counted 9 posts (not including mine) mentioning Tatsuki Machida as the / one of the retirees people miss most. His star shined briefly but it was enough to stay in people's hearts and to leave his own kind of legacy. Yuka Nagai skated to East Of Eden after watching his SP at the 2014 Worlds, Wakaba Higuchi got a brand new EX program that's meant to represent her transition to the maturity required in the seniors field. She's been waiting to do this ever since she saw Machida's "Byakuyako" EX, his first self-choreographed program and a piece of music that had never been used before. And now Shoma Uno will bring "Fantasy for Violin and Orchestra" back; although it is most often associated with Mao Asada, it was only two seasons ago when Machida skated to this piece of music with tears in his eyes and his right hand over his heart. It was the sign us Machida fans noticed and we instantly knew he was going to end his career 48 hours later.
