I wonder why US gymnastics is a bit like the Russians in figure skating? Dominate in Ladies with gymnasts so good that they could probably send a B team and challenge for Gold but mediocre in Men's.

Horizontal may be more like Uchimura (current champion) Epke and Lauduet

I only follow RG casually, but is Mamun really that hot of a gold favorite? What if both Yana and her go clean?

it will be close, but I think they'll give it to Mamun.

didn't you watch at Europeans ? they were just waiting for Mamun to go clean and she would have won, her ball, clubs and ribbon scores were higher then Yanas minus her drop in hoop cost her the gold. The problem with Mamun is she rarely goes clean in big competitions.

RG has taken a back seat lately in my life. Will catch up with Europeans later. Suppose that Mamun won gold, how high is the possibility that Yana will stay for another Olympics? The Russian field is extremely competitive. Zhenya became the oldest rhythmic gymnast to win gold at age 22 IIRC. I'm not Yana fan but it sucks to be a dominant force for 3 years and then have a dip in form in the pivotal year.

Yana just recovered from her injury and Mamun has really been stable this year. I guess if Yana will Not win she will still retire, the 2016-2020 CoP will change again and the number of masteries in difficulties will increase, execution wont be enough. Yana has great execution but she doesn't have high Body Difficulty like say compared to Aleksandra Soldatova.

I fully expect a new batch for next quad, Russia's field is so deep they have Soldatova, the twins Arina and Dina, Ermolova, Sergeeva will turn senior next year and 2019 Polina Shmatko (recent European Junior Ball and Clubs champion) - dubbed as the new wonder kid in Russian RG who will be 17 years old in Tokyo Olympics.

already fans are proclaiming Shmatko as the undisputed Olympic Gold medalist even though she doesn't turn senior until 2019.
we've seen this before :drama: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polina_Shmatko
