Has anyone watched judo yesterday? Incredible results, with the gold for a Brazilian girl who was born in the favelas of Rio and suffered from depression and our own Telma Monteiro finally won the medal she looked for for so long! And also first gold for Japan in men :yahoo:

For a country that many didn't want to be there, Russia isn't doing too badly with 10 medals. And look at the sheer number of bronze medals that Japan has!

Hey, I just had a thought. If Canada could win half a dozen more medals and jump up into the Top 4 or 5, we would have all the top figure skating countries at the top of the table!

Come on, it was worth a try to link it into skating! ;)

Germany should have great possibilities (apart from throws in athletics) in canoe/kayak/rowing, women soccer and cycling track. I also expect something in equestrian disciplines

For now, though, I am watching replays of the equestrian cross-country from last night. The Australian commentators are hilariously nervous and beg the director to cut back to Tinney on Pluto Mio.

Meanwhile I am eyeing off Gurza's cute Russian flag galloping boots and wishing our horses had green and gold ones.

Yeah, I thought about Rowing saying it will change soon ;) Of course Athletics too, but that's a bit later. I will watch rowing/canoe/kayak closel since Poland often win at least one medal :hap10:

Italy is on top in FS, too! I guess equally with France? So not only Canada, but also France would have to do better  I'm jealous of how good your country is so far at Olympics, but in a good way! :cheer:

I said, first week is the best (because of some traditional disciplines)... after... well we'll have to suffer. Before the Olympics many newspapers were predicting an exit from final top10 standings, which would be very unacceptable but honestly in step with the crisis (not only financially) sport is having here. But... the government needs a good "commercial" to support the 2024 Olympics bid... So I think till now everyone is pretty happy with the result so far.... *end of complaint*

I would love for Poland to have 9 medals in first week! :p And I probably believe more in your Volleyball Team than you do

Actually, when I was referring to the "top figure skating countries", I was using Thailand as the divider. So, Italy, Australia and South Korea were all in! ;)

I know, Australia haven't quite got to the winning stage yet. But they will be soon! ;)

Especially if Brendan can stop giving karne heart attacks and pulls off his plan.

Rugby 7s is a totally different beast to proper union, and heavily favours speed and agility over size, which is where the All Blacks have such an advantage. Still, New Zealand are deadly opponents at any form of the game, so I'm really happy for Japan too! :yahoo:

And they are not that far off in the total table either!

By the way, to make it easier to compare positions, I have decided to add an extra column to my table showing the ranking according to the gold medals.

I'll go back to the tables for the previous days and add in the gold ranking column to them too when I get the chance later on.

There won't be Rowing today. The weather strikes again :(

EDIT: They want Rowers to compete nonetheless. The results will be funny in that weather :scowl: As everybody knows that wind is different in first row from eight row, so it will be totally unfair competition....

Good! :agree:

I wonder how cyclists will do in that weather... I hope there won't be any horrible crashes.
