Started this a lot later than I intended! (For reasons you will see soon! )

I have to warn you now, I am going to be totally biased with some of my predictions.

I have to be honest, because I was doing this at the last minute (got badly held up because I was making some fan art for one of the participants in this week's JGP, and the programme kept crashing on me in the middle of doing the final part! So, I ended up doing that part about 4 times! ), I didn’t make many changes to the absolute PB order.

In the Ladies, the one change I made was to push Elizaveta Ukolova down a place from 9th to 10th. I’m sorry, but I have totally lost faith in Liza U the past few years. Kihiri’s absolute PB from Junior Nationals was practically the same as Ukolova’s, and I was more inclined to go with her. I was tempted to push Ukolova even further, but because her absolute PB and ISU PB came last season, I didn’t. But I still have my doubts about her.

But such an amount of filtering I had to do on Stats On Ice just to find Kim Ha Nul! I normally just search for the surname, and have never had to use the filters before. But there are so many skaters with “Kim” in their name that I had to filter by country AND then by gender just to make the list manageable enough to go through!

In Pairs, there was only ever one couple I was ever going to put at the top, regardless of what the absolute PB’s said: my Junior World Championship winning children, Anna Dušková & Martin Bidař.

As for the rest, that was difficult. So many new partnerships . I started off tacking the new partnerships by using the best absolute PB score from the previous partnerships.

Anastasia Poluianova was third on the list using this method. But this would have been a wild prediction, considering I couldn’t find out anything about her new partner! On the other hand, there was a MASSIVE 25 point gap between her absolute PB and the absolute PB for the next couple on the list, Ekaterina Alexandrovskaya / Harley Windsor.

In the end, I decided to take my chance and hope that Maksim Selkin is near enough the level that Stepan Korotkov was at.

Shock! Horror! Xie Zhong has a new partner!

So, how many partners has he had now…?! I’ve lost count!

As I had absolute PB scores for both of the skaters, I took a different approach with the new Chinese partnership. There were 2 partnerships in between Xie Zhong’s absolute PB with Zhang Mingyang, and Gao Yumeng’s absolute PB with Li Bowen. So, since the average absolute PB of the 2 Chinese skaters was in between the absolute PB scores for the Canadian and the Japanese partnerships, I put Gao Yumeng / Zie Zhong in between them.

More of the same in Ice Dance. Lots of new partnerships!

Darya POPOVA / Volodymyr BYELIKOV were a headache. His absolute PB put them in 4th position. Her absolute PB put them way out of the scoring positions. So, I decided that the safest thing to do was to hedge my bets and put them as my alternate.

When I searched for “Ushakova” on Stats On Ice, the last scores that came up for Arina were from way back in 2008! Somehow, I don’t think it’s the same girl! Because, 26 is just a little bit too old to be still competing in Juniors! Fortunately, when I did a search for her partner, I found them. Her surname was transliterated as “Yshakova” for last season’s Tallinn Trophy.

I won’t have a chance to do the Men before competitions start today. So, I will post my predictions for them in a separate post.

But, you can probably guess already the identity of one of the skaters I am putting in my Top 6 regardless of where he is in the absolute PB list…!!!

Finally, here are my Men's Predictions.

With the Men, it was interesting that there were only 5 entrants that did not have an ISU PB (well, 6 if you count Daniel Tsion, who withdrew from the 2014 Tallinn Cup). This was low compared to the other categories. But, unlike the other categories, the entire field had profiles on Stats On Ice. So, I was able to get absolute PB scores for all of them.

One of those that didn’t have an ISU PB was my fellow countryman, Sam McAllister. And, even though he has the lowest absolute PB of the field, I am unashamedly putting him in my Top 6! Well, actually in 6th place as my alternate.

It’s a massive gamble, but I want to show my support for my local skater! Let’s face it, we don’t have many!

Anyway, Aliev was always going to be at the top. And Pavlov and Krasnozhon were always going to be joining him on the podium. But, I was in a real quandary about 4th and 5th places.

In my mind, it was always going to be a case of what order to put Savosin and Jiri Belohradsky in. But, when I looked up the absolute PB’s, there were 2 guys ahead of them. Kevin Shum, whose absolute PB from the 2015 US Nationals was massively more than what he has ever achieved on the international scene. And Joseph Phan, who I had never come across before because he has never competed outside of Canada.

With Shum, all his scores from competitions in America for the past few seasons are massively more than what he has been achieving in ISU competitions. So, it started me wondering if there was a bit of national inflation going on, or if the international judges just weren’t getting him.

As for Phan, he is a real unknown quantity. Yes, he has finished on the podium in Junior competitions at Senior B’s held in Canada. But, although they are International competitions, they are still competitions held in his home country. We have no idea how he will fare in a competition in a different country.

So, with this in mind, I kept to my original plan, and put Savosin and Jiri Belohradsky in 4th and 5th, and put Shum and Phan just outside my Top 6 in 7th and 8th.

Hello!

Seeing as we were short of scorers for the Junior GP Game, I decided that I would score the Pairs category myself.

Please be warned, it has been a while since I last did scoring for a proper figure skating competition (as opposed to the TCC…), so I was a little bit rusty.

Consequently, I may have made mistakes. So, if you spot anything wrong, please let me know.

Anyway, here are the podium positions:
