Just to let you know that the Entries / Results Page is now online, and can be found at:

http://www.isuresults.com/results/season1617/jgpjpn2016/

Consequently, I have updated the Original Post to include the link, as well as the SP Start Order tables.

So happy to see that Elisabetta LECCARDI is making her Junior GP debut. (Anybody that watched last year's Lombardia Trophy will know why I am so glad to see her. Apart from that, I like her!)

Hope this helps

I have to be honest, all the Ladies skaters that I had heard tell of before were within the Top 11 when ordered by absolute PB. Below Chloe Ing in 11th, I hadn’t a clue about any of them. Within these 11, there were distinct groups. So, that made things a bit easier.

Deciding what order to put the Top 4 in was difficult. Marin Honda should win in theory. But, because so many people are expecting her to win, that is going to put a lot of pressure on her. Then you add in the fact that it is being held in her home country. Sometimes that can be a help, but other times it is even more pressure. You never know which it will be. And it doesn’t help that Marin hasn’t done any International events in Japan that we can use as a guide.

So, I am going to take a gamble and go for Alisa Fedichkina to win. OK, so I am biased because I really like the girl. But, she does have a really good shot of winning.

For the rest of the Top 5, the absolute PB order made sense to me. It was after this that I had to make difficult decisions. There were 3 skaters that I was unfamiliar with (OK, so strictly speaking I had seen Östlund before, but I can’t remember her. I haven’t seen Noullet or Samodurova) followed by 3 skaters who I am more familiar with (Leccardi, Pasfield and Ing).

The thing is, I really like Leccardi. And I really want to put her in my Top 6. But, her absolute PB is 122.28 (from April’s Gardena Spring Cup) whereas Östlund’s absolute PB is 140.44 (from November’s Tallinn Trophy). So, it is hard to justify. There again, with the Czech Skate Men’s competition, I put the guy with the lowest absolute PB of the field into 6th position. So, when you look at it like that, there’s nothing to stop me moving the girl with the 9th highest absolute PB up just 3 places! ;)

In the Men, we had a Zagitova situation. Artem Kovalev does not have an ISU PB, or an entry on Stats On Ice. But, when I looked him up on fskate.ru, he had the highest absolute PB by a considerable distance! We’re talking 27.35 points higher than Vincent Zhou’s absolute PB!

All along, when I was looking at the entries, I already had the Top 5 set in my mind. But, Kovalev has thrown that all up in the air. Do I gamble like I did with Zagitova? It paid off then, but Kovalev is very young. I don’t know enough about him to know how he will cope.

Sod it! I’m putting Kovalev on top. You just can’t argue with numbers like that!

The rest of my Top 6 were kept in the order I was intending to put them. Which, coincidentally was the absolute PB order. In fact, for the most part I did keep to the absolute PB order for my Top 10. I just made one switcheroo.

There was only a small difference between the absolute PB’s for Daniel Grassl (180.53 at April’s Gardena Spring Trophy) and Emmanuel Savary (179.32 at January’s US Nationals). Although Savary’s absolute PB is from Nationals, his International PB (from March’s Triglav Trophy in Slovenia) is only 0.08 lower. So, it is probably not “national inflation”. On the other hand, Grassl does not score as highly outside of his home country. His highest score outside of Italy is 171.50 (from December’s Santa Claus Cup in Hungary), but most of his scores from foreign competitions are a good bit lower again.

So, when you take this into consideration (along with the fact I am more familiar with Savary), giving Savary the nod seemed the logical thing to do.

Ice Dance was a stab in the dark. It may only be a small field, but the only ones I was familiar with were the Top 3, and Friend / Badaoui.

The Parsons siblings should walk it. There is only 4 points difference between the absolute PB’s for Abachkina / Thauron and Shpilevaya / Smirnov, but I do think the Russian / French partnership will have the edge over the Ukrainian / Russian partnership.

After that, I’m totally in the dark. And it doesn’t help that Kristsina Kaunatskaia / Yuri Hulitski are a new partnership without an absolute PB yet. Hulitski’s absolute PB of 130.18 (with Maria Oleynik) would put him into 4th position. Kaunatskaia’s absolute PB of 94.38 (with Yan Lukovskii) would put her 3rd from the bottom. Using the mean of their absolute PB’s would place them just above Friend / Badaoui. So, in effect, using the mean would move Kaunatskaia up one place.

Given how high Yuri’s absolute PB is, this seems a bit, well, mean on him. But, it seemed the fairest solution.

Can’t wait for it to start (and hopefully I’ll see more of it than the previous couple of Junior GP’s!)

THIS IS YOUR (roughly) EIGHT HOUR WARNING.

You have just 8 hours left until the deadline to get your predictions in, i.e. until 13:45 JST (05:45 BST / 04:45 GMT)

PLEASE NOTE: Unlike with the ISU and Nationals Predictions Games I have run in the past, I am going to be strict about deadlines for the Grand Prix Predictions Games. But, that is the way it has always been for the GP Game, so in effect there is no change compared to previous seasons.

Right, I'm away to bed now. :bed: Depending on when I wake up, you may or may not get another reminder before the competition starts.

WOW!!! :jaw: How long is it since the competition finished?!

Just looked at the spreadsheet, and I'm in joint penultimate position. :disapp:

But, I've got Sugarpova to keep me company, so I'm not complaining!

Looks like the gamble I took on Kovalev winning was too big a gamble.

Oh well. It was worth a try.
