Getting back to Pairs, and I was really impressed with Yu Meng and Zhong. I hope he sticks with this partner, because she is good. Probably the best he has had since Zhang Mingyang.

Had to laugh at Ted talking about looking forward to seeing them develop over the next 3 or 4 years. Does he not realise that Zhong has been changing his partner EVERY year for the past 4 years or so?! :laugh:

Wow! That is hard to get my head around, that Jamie was actually tinier not so long ago. :shocked:

But, hey, they always say that tiny girls and big guys make the ideal Pairs partnerships.

So, hopefully that will stand them in good stead for the future.

MISHINA/MIRZOEV are leaders of Event.
Two very nice new pairs - BOIKOVA/KOZLOVSKII and GAO/XIE.
BORISOVA/SOPOT - not so good, BORISOVA was recently seriously ill - meningitis.

Very impressive skating from the top 2 Russian couples. Based on an interview from Velikova recently I was slightly worried about Anastasia but she performed very well, everything was crisp and clean from both of them. It will be interesting to see how they match up against B/D, I wasn't overly keen on their music. A very strong debut from B/K. Good technical elements, their 2A looked very good, I thought they might be marked down on PCS but they scored well. They have real potential

I really enjoyed B/S last year, they skated with real power but that seemed missing today. I think the music overpowered them. I heard she was sick at the test skates but I didn't realise it was meningitis, I hope she is fully recovered it is quite a serious illness. I liked the Chinese, an improvement on their PB from Ostrava. Looking forward to the free skating.

I wouldn't worry about Borisova/Sopot not being in their full readiness yet. Last year Mishina/Mirzoev managed to mess up their JGP event and yet it didn't spoil the rest of their season. As long as B/S are ready for Russian junior nationals so that they can qualify for worlds, that's all that matters. In a few years no one will even remember if one season they didn't perform well at some JGP events. I hope they manage to squeeze into JGPF, but if they don't, the health is more important. Let's hope she gave herself enough time to recover.
