Should anyone know of a free stream available in Europe, it will be needed. Our Eurosport is only planning to cover the Ladies LPs, the gala and what looks to be one SP. Even worse coverage than Skate America, the worst coverage in years, while of course snooker is planned in several hours' blocs on both Eurosport programs, the same event even. Most unfair that ISU geoblocks Europe when Eurosport just grab the rights and make no use of them, curse them. How on earth should skating become more popular here when even its coverage is so hard to find. Is trying the Player for one month any good when one doesn't have anything (like tablets, smartphones and such) but a regular computer?

Well, in theory it could be worth it to subscribe to the Eurosport player, as long as Eurosport still offers the ISU stream via that player. At least the German page shows that it will be available on Friday, but personally I'm not entirely sure I trust them with that. Last year the preview showed the ISU channel to be available, and most of us assumed that it would stay like that for the rest of the season. But like 2 weeks into the GP, they just took it away without warning or explanation. And then we were stuck with what they chose to air on their TV channels. But I guess it could be worth a try. Maybe wait a few more days and then check if the preview for the whole weekend still shows the ISU channel to be available. Then at least SC should be covered.

Further to what Pamigena said - if they stop the ISU channel in the Player after a couple of events (like they did last year)... then you can simply cancel the monthly subscription. (Beware of the annual subscription - you can't cancel it so easily, and it only works out cheaper if you use it for more sports than just skating).

About using a "regular computer" instead of smartphone or tablet: where I am (UK), and with my internet provider etc, the Eurosport Player streaming quality and reliability is the best of any I've ever used.

At the maximum 720p resolution it looks great on a HD TV or large computer screen, much better than watching on a tiny phone or tablet screen. I hook up a laptop to the full-size TV to watch the Player ie. "Regular computer" is the best way to view the Player, in my opinion.

The one month subscription is 8 (7,99) euros, IIRC. I bought it last week, and it was definitely worth it for Skate America... I mean, it would have been perfect for the four dead-of-night-in-Europe events that were not shown live on television, if I hadn't been downded by a migraine and just couldn't stay awake during the night. :palmf:

But assuming they stream Skate Canada on it, then it should be worth it. Like YesWay said, the quality is excellent. I usually watch on my laptop, but it looks great when streamed to the telly, too (then I use appletv via ipad).

To add to my above post, the (analogue!) TV guide I subscribe to has suddenly changed formats, and now lists a bunch of digital TV channels... including Eurosport 2. I already got the one for next week, and it looks like, as suspected, all of the Rostelecom short programs will be aired live (most of it on E2, then at 4 pm my timezone they switch to E1, presumably for the last of the four SP events, whichever that one is, because there's Snooker on E2).

So even if the ISU stream isn't available then, presumably you will be able to see all of Rostelecom LIVE on the Eurosport player, as well. So that makes the one-month subscription maybe more interesting, if you don't have access to E1 and 2 on your television.

I agree the computer can be the best way to see Europort Player.
According to what I have just see, Eurosport international (I think it's the British one) will broadcast on Player Skate Canada since its beginning Friday Oct.28, starting at 8pm Greenwich time, 9 pm Central European time.
Usually Russia1 or Sport1 or Match Arena bradcast the whole GP and you can see them on streaming, try www.streamking.co and see what you get ( all is written in Eussian alphabet, but with a little effort it's not difficult to read it. Figure skating is Phygyrnoje Katanje, more or less correctly translitterated. Times are Moscow time, which is now two hours ahead of Greenwich time.

Looks like they're covering the entirety of the event on TV live, not skipping over anyone. That's good. Wish they did that every week...

CTV/TSN has the TV broadcasting rights for all Skate Canada competitions, CBC has rights for the rest. CTV and CBC are free but TSN IS NOT FREE. I know it's more complicate than most of skating countries other than Japan...

CBC at least stepped up to show everything online, so no complains as a happy Canadian :)

Hi guys, I have a stupid question. I bought the icenetwork subscription but I don't know how it works. Do I need to login and then go to schedule+results and click on skate Canada link? When I do that I see the schedule but no link to online streaming. I appreciate your response, thanks.

OK, so unlike last week, I have decided to start my searching early and put up what we have so far.

At the time of posting, I had only checked the websites of the British, German and Dutch versions. But, I will add in some others when I check again tomorrow.

So far, the only differences are that Eurosport Deutschland and British Eurosport are not showing all the Skate America Highlights that are being shown on Friday. And British ESP is not showing the Saturday afternoon highlights of Friday’s action.

Hope this helps.

I am in a state of shock - no men's sp nor lp and no ice dance at all. 'Well done' Eurosport you surpassed yourselves this time!
I plan however record all recaps in case some programs are not titled correctly - unlikely I know but hoping against hope

It is logical that they wouldn't air those events live ln television; not enough viewers in the middle of the night. But also, indeed really bad that they do not seem to bother with recap programs the morning or afternoon after. I am also setting the recorder to record as much as possible, I guess they may show some of the top skaters in between breaks in the live programs?
