Here is a dog technical controller at Four Conts....I think they may be kinder judges than cats....

Actually our cat would protest first before swatting at my brother's flute so there was no mistaking her disapproval.

Dogs don't judge and are totally forgiving. However, they howl when irritated by disagreeable music. But some people think they sing along. I say be kind to them and keep them relaxed and happy as they deserve love and consideration.

This is an interesting field, anything can happen.

There are top skaters still not at their best shape: Ashley won in SA but not with 2 clean performances, Liza was ready to bring her 3A back here in China but she struggled with illness in the past few days, Elena messy LP at the Rostelecom cup, Kaetlyn great silver in Canada but again messy LP.

On the other side there are a lot of underdogs like Rika Hongo ready to redeem herself after the disappointment in Canada, Mai Mihara, Zijun Li Courtney Hicks.

Pogo needs only a medal of any color to make the GPF. Satoko really needs that gold to seal the deal.
If Satoko wins gold, Pogo gets bronze and Maria Sotskova wins silver, they likely will ALL get to the GPF.

Wakaba Higuchi is so pushed in Japan, she was close to win Nationals few years ago: i want the best skaters on the podium but i wouldn't be surprised if they pull out Maria or Anna to medal the japanese.

yes, I think that these 2 last GPs are the most interesting in term of Ladies competition (men too probably as there are multiple possibilities of GPF layout). Here in China the key to good placement will be consistency and nerves I think - the lady who will deliver in both programs in the most 'sufficient' level comparing to others would probably win. As you've pointed - there are so-called favourites Ashley and Elena, there goes Kaetlyn, Mihara, Elizaveta, Zijun, Rika, Courtney...Basically they are all capable of medalling there which makes things more exciting.

As for NHK, there will be a heavy war for those last spots in GPF and it will all come again to deliverance - all Anna, Wakaba, Satoko and Maria will have a chance of winning

You have to remember that Ashley skated at the Japan Open just days before Skate America, and she had a long trip in between. She's had plenty of time to clean up her programs since then.

BTW, the Tech Specialist for this event is the dreaded SHIN AMANO, the nitpickiest caller ever. Tuk and Hicks have nothing to worry about, but everyone else does.

I'm loving the cat stories! Before our beloved Betty Boop passed on in February, I was not allowed to sing anything but "Soft Kitty" in the house. She would run up to me and either swat at my head or put her paw over my mouth if I burst into any other song.

Our new tortie girl, Starlett O'Hairbag, doesn't mind if I sing, and seems to enjoy watching skating on the laptop with me.

Back to the topic - go, everyone! Skate so well the judges don't know how to rank you. :)

Love your cat names Betty Boop (RIP) and Starlett O'Hairbag! My long-departed kitty Vincent (named for the 1980's Beauty & the Beast TV series) used to love to watch Brian Boitano, seriously! His sister Catherine showed no interest at all. My current kitties Lily (tortie) & Violet (diluted tortie) aren't interested in figure skating, but Violet likes golf!

Back on topic - I have no favorite skaters here, but it will be interesting to see as always!

Worst thing is, I'll have to work all the way through all of Friday's comps! :palmf: I've used all my holidays. Hope very much, Rockerskating and fans on twitter keep reporting (and I can have the one or the other sneaky peak in the office :)

Zijun, Mai, Ashley, Courtney, Karen looked pretty good at practice according to a spectator on a Russian forum (#1, #2: google translate tool is quite useful :))
Elena is said to look better than Rostelecom although she nailed and fell on some jumps
Rika, Liza struggled at pracitce and Kaetlyn skipped her jumps in her runthrough.

Though it was their first day practice, so the condition may be changed. I still have no idea who will take the podium.

Courtney Hicks......Listen to your Uncle Quintin (Me) and trust me when I say. Embrace the opportunity to go first in your group. This is your chance to say, "Beat That, Girl!" to all the ladies that follow. Give those Judges a nice early event, smack in the face!! Imagine those words coming from a beautiful Russian Ballerina with her long dark hair in a ponytail, and it will resemble the advice I used to get from my teacher. It worked for me and I know it will work for you. Leave the fear behind, trust your training, and always remember, this is about you. :cheer2:

Courtney competed first in her group of either her SP or FS segment at Finlandia and made a lot of mistakes. The costly experience may make her get ready for this time.
