OK, I found some explanation (in German!)... Not satisfying, but still. :sarcasm:
Fentz is 0.07 points better if you add the 2 best season results. Still, given Peter is getting better every day, and Fentz is... hopelessly stiff, they should have made a judgement call here. Fentz uses the same program as last year, and every second in this program where he's not jumping is just painful to sit through. Sad.
Paul Fentz FS German Championships 2016-17
Peter Liebers FS German Championships 2016-17

But the article says that Fentz has to skate into the Top Ten at Euros to go also to the Worlds. If he doesn't reach the Top Ten then Peters Liebers has a chance to go to the Worlds. So there is hope for him :).

What I didn't know is that also Nathalie Weinzierl was ill at German Nationals and had to take medicine to reduce the temperature...

Sure, but Peter deserves more than to have to sit at home and watch the Euros and hope that Fentz doesn't finish in the top 10.
Which would mean no second spot for Germany again next year. The second spot that Fentz (16th) and Streubel (14th) lost last time around when Liebers was injured. Liebers got Germany that second spot the last 3 times he went to Euros.
And he's won the 5 last German Championships he competed in. Including this one. He's so obviously in such a different category of skater than Fentz (sorry, I really mean no offense to Paul...) that the mere fact that they just handed both the same program components would be a joke. But they slap Liebers in the face by not sending him because of 0,07 points when every international judge would acknowledge the humongous difference in program components between the 2. If they give Fentz super inflated PCs, why not at least raise Liebers' by a little more? They're not on the same level at all in that regard.
Liebers deserves more gratitude from the DEU than that.

Plus, the difference in competition between Euros and worlds is so big, Peter could finish 20th at Worlds with a performance that would have meant top 10 at Euros. (add 3 Japanese, 2 Chinese, 2 US, Patrick Chan, Denis Ten - just off the top of my head)

I watched the competition live. Fentz skating skills were much better than liebers yesterday. he improved so much and his 4T looked gorgeous. Way better than Liebers. The audience supported Paul more than Liebers.

I think the system is quite fair and the Top 10 at Euros should be easily possible.

So still no sign of Annabelle Prölß competing, even in Singles.

I doubt she must have retired quietly after her split with Ruben Blommaert.

It's a shame if she has stopped completely. Yes, she had undoubtedly grown too tall for Pairs, but I thought she was still promising as a Singles skater.

Are there rumours she will return? It would be surprising. Her last competition was three years ago.

I agree with Fentz's 4T looking gorgeous. So did the judges, who gave it +2 GOEs, for a total of 12,3 points.
Liebers got -4 and <, for a total of 4 points (-1 for the fall, so actually 3 points).

9,3 points difference just for this 1 element is huge, and well deserved. But I can't agree with your statement that Fentz's skating skills were much better than Liebers'. I wasn't there live, but I saw both youtube vids I linked to, and I can't imagine the camera distorted it in such a way that it made Fentz look to me like he always looks, when in reality it wasn't the case: Fentz stiff as cardboard, and Liebers... well, still not at 100% but so much better than Fentz. Fentz uses the same program as last year, he didn't change any move in his choreography, and he didn't look improved to me at all. His posture is hunchback-atroceous, his arms are stiff, his facial expression looks to me like he's thinking of what he wants to put on his shopping list next. That's my guess of what the international judges always see when they mark him. 5,74 points less than Liebers for that very program just 2 weeks ago, that's a huge difference. (69,26 points Liebers, 63,52 Fentz)

When I see those 2 videos, I see Liebers performing a program and struggle with some jumps, while I see Fentz have some beautiful jumps, then some very botched ones, but everything in between the jumps is awkwardly waiting for the next jump to make it stop being awkward.
But we can agree to disagree ;)

The scores of Lorenz/Polizoakis :laugh2: I'm not sure what German Fed want to achieve with inflating it so much. They won't go even close to that internationally this season....That's just giving false hope for them. But I guess they have full support from Fed.

No. I just wonder where she is every time Nationals comes around. Beause I liked her.

I thought continuing to do Singles at the same time as she was doing Pairs was a backup in case Pairs didn't work out. So, that's why I was surprised that she just disappeared without trace after her and Ruben split.

Is Fenz much younger than Liebers ? perhaps the Federation is thinking to make him get international experience in light of the next Olympic quadriennial period.
Me too I'm disappointed not to see Liebers at Euros.

when you see her instagram #belle-proelss
it is very clear that she quit with Skating, but sometimes it is still hard for her

Thanks for the info.

It's a shame, but at least we know for sure now. (With long-term injuries and sabbaticals, it is sometimes hard to tell who is finished and who is not).
