I've just finished putting together my first totally customized desk. After 10 years using a average sized desk I got from a furniture chain, I've added a 2 meter long extension and now my desk extends across two sides of my room. I had originally hoped to bribe one of my brothers to build it for me, but he was busy with his life. I watched some youtube videos on how to use a saw, bought some sturdy adjustable table legs and got the table-top wood from a hardware store nearby. They cut it to size and delivered it to my door. This meant I only had to sand, varnish and drill it all together. I used the off-cuts from the table top to make some shelves for my art supplies.

This is my first solo carpentry project and it's turned out better than I expected. -It took 3 days to complete and I did not cut off my own fingers with the saw, or drill a hole through the floor on accident.

So on top of amazing drawing skills You are also a talented carpenter? Congratulations on putting this customized desk:hb:

I’ve been spamming GS lately. I’ve had a couple non life threatening but fairly serious medical issues the last few weeks. Between my bed and couch and the doctors and specialists I’ve been pretty idle with little to do besides surf the net and watch movies. I’ll be fine so there is no major concern but I’ve just been so bored!

Sorry GS :eek::

Take care, Sam!

This is actually the best sign of all to spam on GS - brain works and FS interest is alive:laugh:

We have a new dog. I do not speak "new dog" I speak "old dog" and Eli knew what "beep-beep" (move out of the way) and "Show me" (show me what you want) and "Hold your horses" (wait a moment). He also understood that when I brushed my hands together (like when you wipe crumbs away) that that meant all the food on my plate was gone and he could give up begging. New dog does not know these terms. What we are having is a failure to communicate. Still love her and her squishy face though.

She's a rescued 12 year old golden lab. We nearly always have GSDs so this is taking some adjustment. Golden Labs are all "OOOOHHHHH.. a stranger! A Stranger is a friend I haven't met yet!" and GSD are more "A stranger! Present your documentation and your authorization to be in this area immediately".

My Chihuahua aged 6 years died end of June, took ill very suddenly... I miss him with every breath but it has had a tremendous effect on my 13 year old beagle who is grieving. He has separation anxiety and it breaks my heart. I am not ready for another dog but he needs a companion so will likely adopt an older dog for company. I think it will help...

Hello there:) :)
I am very happy for you and excited for the dog! My deepest respect for helping old rescuers, You are a hero in my book. Since we have a dog in my hometown (6 and a half years), I have got very sensitive and emotional about dogs, crying over abandoned/injured ones, trying to donate as much as possible. Recently, I am just nervous and uneasy, because my mom want to continue to travel abroad for work for 6-8 week period and we have no one to leave the dog, so my mom and my sister think of finding her new home... I am crying even typing this now, just sad:(:(:(

elbkup and NoName, I'm really sorry about your dog issues. :sad14: I don't know if you know (I think NoName does) that my beloved Eli got hit by a car last year in June. It took me more than a year to even want to think about getting another dog. Bella came into our lives and she's been great. I still miss Eli to pieces. I still get teary when I talk about him. Such a huge presence. We don't deserve dogs. They come into our lives and they love us no matter what and then they are gone and the hole is huge. We just have to treasure the time we get and remember the love we got from them when they are gone.

Bella is our second old rescue. The first was a 12 year old GSD we called Rom who had been left to die by his people in the woods. He was a great dog. We didn't feel like we could commit to a puppy or a really young dog so when Bella came up for adoption we decided to take her. She's great on the leash and she's good with cats so it's a decent fit. Still getting used to her. She was with a couple for her first 12 years and very well treated but the lady had a terrible case of lime disease and was going into the hospital in the US. They could no longer care for her so they brought her to the rescue my best friend volunteers at. She thought Bella and I would make a good fit. BTW.. I'd change her name if I could. Bella is so over used now. It's a nice name but I tend to call animals different names. My cat was called Flea.

Get well soon Sam!

Oh Sam-Skwantch, get well soon! :ghug:

I wish you a speedy recovery!

Sounds like you are taking medical guys advice to heart.. do EXACTLY what they tell you and, please, feel better soon....

So sorry to hear that - and if spamming helps you pass the time, spam away!!

(Don't do what I did the last time I was sick in bed, started hunting up ghost stories on youtube - it all started from a BBC M R James ones- then haunted mirror vids, then bits from scary movies.... then decided "who needs to turn the light off tonight???")

Spam away I say, I enjoy reading your posts Sam! I hope you get well quickly!

As for confessions...well I was watching Alexandra Trusova's FS from the Test Skates on YouTube and I spotted Plushy in the background and kept getting distracted from the skating, because I kept trying to pick out other people...I saw TAT and I think Mishin too!

Take care, Sam!

Get well soon, Sam! I'll be praying for you.

Get well soon, Sam. :ghug:

Also, on another note, I want S/H to skate an EX to this: https://youtu.be/BzMYrGuZ8DU

Take care, Sam-Skwantch!

Wow...you guys are the best :

Things are starting to look up...all tests are done and no surgery is needed. I’m almost back to full strength and I’ve been going out and even worked the last few days.

Random Confession: I’ve eaten poorly during this whole time. Not frequent enough and then when I did it was garbage food. I’m gonna have to start increasing my normal exercise routine and eat nothing but celery to shed a few pounds after all this. JK

I know I’m going to get there.

We all have good days and bad days. Those bad days make the good days feel even better. Unfortunately the opposite can sometimes happen. It’s ok to have bad days though because every day skating is a day we’ll spent :console:

Hope you find somewhere good at a reasonable price. I went through all this stress 4 years ago and it's a nightmare. You find the right place and everyone else wants it too!

The rental market here is insane. One of the properties I saw yesterday was hardly more than a rat hole and it was still expensive. Ludicrous. I'm already resigning myself to paying more than what I am now.

Adulting sucks. Avoid if at all possible.

I haven't been on the market in nearly 5 years and it's only got worse since then. I was in a queue to get into a place with 20 other people yesterday - it was overpriced for being as small as it was and no car space but with that many people - someone will pay it!

I’m dreading the possibility if I have to move again as Brisbane prices aren’t no better and made more challenging when you’re single and choose to live alone. What’s affordable is a dump 💩 or miles out from the city. I’ve decided that my next place will be either modern or well maintained and will have to move a little further out. Been there done that with lining in a crap home in a good area.

Your stories about Eli made me smile and often LOL; I was upset to learn of his passing. They do leave a huge hole behind when they go. I took care of at least 10 FeLeu positive cats at different times; their life span is short compared to healthy cats so they had a home for as long as they needed but they took a piece of my heart each time and I remember each soul fondly, even choosing a song for each which seemed to help me heal. Poppi has a song too. No matter how often you go thru their passing, you are never immune to it. Poppi (my Chihuahua) went diabetic practically overnight and went into acute pancreatitis at the same time; even with extreme invasive treatment, the vet gave him less than a 50% chance of surviving. We tried a mini poodle, Eliot, my sister was fostering as a companion for Charli but Eliot did not like other dogs and bit Charli so he went back into foster care with my sister where he is undergoing special needs training.. I help out with that and see Eliot every day; he has grown attached to me. The new arrival will be much loved. About changing names: I don't either as a rule, but on occasion I have chosen a nicknane or something else I like better that sounds enough like the original to be less jarring for the animal... (Ella, Ellie, BB, maybe?) Good Luck with Bella.. she sounds sweet
