THIS IS YOUR TWO AND A HALF HOUR WARNING.

You have just 2 hours 30 minutes left until the target time to get your predictions in, i.e. until 11:55 EST (16:55 GMT / 17:55 CET)

But, as usual in my Games, this is just a target time so that you are not rushing about at the last minute. Predictions for each category will still be accepted up until the start of that category’s Short Programme.

Please Note: if you want to change your predictions after the first SP has started, you have to post the amendments IN A NEW POST. Editing your original post will invalidate your predictions.

Well, with Mallet not competing this year, it is straightforward who is going to be on the podium. In fact, if all goes according to plan, it should be straightforward as to who is going to win. The question is which step will Alaine and Gabby be on.

In the end, I went with Gabby.

You know, after looking up the absolute PB’s, I was more than a bit disappointed with the depth of the field. Or, rather, the lack of depth.

Austman and Yim were next on the absolute PB list. But, as I realised last year, everybody that was competing at the competition where they achieved those scores was being marked generously. So, it is not a fair reflection of where they are in this field.

So, I decided to use their second highest scores, which moved Tamura and Long up above both of them. And this made much more sense to me.

Frankly, the skaters I have in the Top 4 are the only ones I am really familiar with. Apart from the skaters I have already mentioned (minus Long), only Deguise Léveillée, Pineault and the Decelles twins here have ever competed outside of Canada. And those last three are outside the Top 10 on absolute PB’s.

So, I just left the rest of the field ordered by absolute PB. Because I have nothing else to go on!

Thankfully, the Men’s field was much deeper. And I had more than enough skaters that I was familiar with to fill the scoring positions without going to the absolute PB’s.

Patrick and then Nam was a given.

Every year, it pains me to do this set of predictions, because I have to push Kevin Reynolds down the order because his absolute PB is so old, and because he is invariable coming back from injury. However, not this year! Thanks to his good showing in Skate Canada, his SB meant that I did not have to push him down anywhere near as far this time. In fact, I only pushed him down one place to third.

Next I put Liam Firus. I just love his programmes every year. But I was torn over who to put into 5th place. I wanted to put Elladj Balde in my Top 5, but the judges just don’t get him.

In the end, I decided to go with my heart rather than my head, and did have Elladj completing my Top 5.

For my alternate, it was tricky. There were three guys I was thinking of, and when I looked at their absolute PB’s, two of them were practically identical, and the other was only 3 points lower. And what my gut was saying was actually the reverse of the absolute PB order.

I went with my gut.
For the rest, I kept them in absolute PB order. Except for one change. I moved Joseph Phan up to 10th ahead of Mitchell Gordon. There were two reasons for this. Firstly, Phan has been doing well in Junior GP’s this season. And secondly, Gordon’s absolute PB was scored at that competition that I was talking about during the Ladies analysis.

When it came to Pairs, the Top 4 were already arranged in my head. It was just a case of deciding whether to put Ruest / Wolfe or Jones / Reagan as my alternate. And which way round to put the two brand new partnerships at the bottom.

With the former choice, Camille and Andrew were 4 points ahead. However, I have a feeling the performance Josh’s former partner put in last night to lead the American Pairs SP will inspire him for tonight. So, I went for him and Brittany.

As for the new partnerships, it was a toss up over who to put at the bottom. Because Sydney is brand new to Pairs, and Angelina has a very low absolute PB. In the end, the decision was reached based on the guys’ former partnerships.

In Dance, it was a similar story. I already had the Top 4 worked out in my head. It was just a matter of sorting the rest.

Thankfully, the brand new partnerships that I couldn’t find results for did not come into the equation in terms of who to put as my alternate. It was a straightforward choice between Sales / Warmsteeker and Soucisse / Firus. And although Sales / Warmsteeker scored their absolute PB at that competition where the judges were being generous, they had other scores that were better than Soucisse / Firus.

For the brand new couples, Dominic Barthe was the only one that had a score over 100 for his previous partnership. So, I put him and his new partner ahead of the other two new partnerships.

Scores will be going into the spreadsheet later today.

Erm, did I prevent you from doing it sooner by deciding to sort the names in the spreadsheet alphabetically this afternoon? :slink:

Well, I'm finished now, so no need to worry.

Here are the Pairs results.

Firstly, as most of you will know by now, Julianne SÉGUIN / Charlie BILODEAU withdrew before the SP started. Consequently, some players still had them in their predictions, while others did not.

But, never fear! I removed them from everybody’s predictions before I did the scoring, as per the rules for withdrawals.

Secondly, there is the issue of the transliteration of Lubov’s surname. Skate Canada uses one transliteration (Ilyushechkina), whereas the ISU uses a different transliteration (Iliushechkina). Because of this confusion, I accepted both.

This was a very high scoring round. A grand total of 11 players got full points, while 22 players just got 10 points less. In fact, only 3 players did not get onto the podium!

So, here are the podium positions:

GOLD with 75 points: apgold, CaroLiza_fan, ines42575, lovaticcanada, Osmond4gold, rosacotton, silverfoxes, Skater Boy, StitchMonkey, sunnystars, TGee.

SILVER with 65 points: 4everchan, Ares, Bellaxx, casualfan, eta, Florencito, Heisenberg, Hyena, Ice Diva, icekiwi, invisiblespiral, kresslia, LadyB, matmuh, Moxiejan, nadster, Nathan13, Puchi, SnowWhite, Sugarpova, voolfee, Weathergal.

BRONZE with 60 points: cheerknithanson.

Congratulations!!! :cheer:   :party2: :points:

cheerknithanson would have scored more if only she had included an alternate! :drama:

Since there are only 3 other players, I may as well go through them.

MeaganSkater scored 55 points due to having the correct 5 couples, but had 2nd and 3rd, as well as 4th and 5th, the wrong way around.

syl20c also scored 55 points, but that was because of only having 4 predictions (and that was without Séguin / Bilodeau!)

Sabrina scored 45 points due to only having 4 predictions, which were reduced to 3 when Séguin / Bilodeau were removed.

Nevertheless, everybody did very well!

To find out more, please see the spreadsheet.

2 Bronzes and Gold for Canadian predictions, and probably zilch for US. Perhaps it's really time for me to move to Canada, LOL!

Either that or the Canadians are really predictable.

predictable top five for most yes, because less depth? Perhaps...
but more reliable, for the podium I would say... ;)
