Oh damn, the Eurovision stream doesn't work through my work's internet connection. Was only working at home. Grrr.

Thomalla/Kunkel. Solid program as well! First triple twist and throw of the competition! She's only 13 and is so tiny, but hopefully she won't hit a massive growth spurt like Prolss did.

Thankfully there are only 16 pairs in this competition, because every single one of them deserve to be in the FS. What a delight so far :yahoo:

Japanese team! Easily the scariest looking Group 5 lift so far, but their skating skills and expressiveness outclass everyone else by far. Got to admire that softness quality that the Japanese have! Much better twist than before Nationals, hopefully they will work more on that lift and strength training. They still have two years of junior eligibility left, so hopefully they be even better with more time!

Great job from the Japanese team. I'm glad I dragged myself out of bed to watch the whole thing!

I don't recall seeing this Japanese team before, but it was lovely to watch.
Also, yay for that earlier program with the cool jazzy movie soundtrack music!

I'm starting to really worry for Narumi Takahashi's future.

Not only did she finish last with her newest partner in Senior Nationals this year (and 24 points behind the other all-Japanese partnership), but here is a promising Junior Pairs partnership (who are both Japanese!) that will be old enough for Seniors next season.

Given that Miura / Ichihashi's score from Junior Nationals is only 11 points below Takahashi / Shibata's in Senior Nationals, they could realistically overtake them.

The music was much too big for them, but they skated their hearts out!

Been a couple of seasons since I saw somebody skate to "Nostradamus", and I didn't realise until there now how much I've missed it.

Liked them. Continuing the trend from the opening group of everybody being pretty good!

Realistically, she's already way past her prime. She still can't land her SBS, and that alone is the single most costly factor. Even if magically Japan produces a good partner, her SBS will always be a roadblock.

Nice effort on the 3F throw from the Italian team. Somehow Italy always has the problem of tall male skaters that don't have strength?

Nice job. Program felt kind of generic to me though.

That was a really rough skate for the Americans, but they suite each other (and no, not just because they are both blonde). I think they complement each other nicely, just need more time to get things working smoothly. Hopefully they'll still be together because he's aging out of juniors next season.

Ah! Finally! A partnership I remember seeing before.

And I remember because I didn't like the costumes (particularly Nica's dress).

Skating wasn't as bad, though. And that is what matters.

That said, nobody on the sofa seems too impressed with scores.
