People thought that jwc were guaranteed a spot last year too but no one could find it in the rules. I don't see it this year either.

Their wc lp finish means nothing unfortunately. The only thing that matters about the wc is if you're in the top 10 or not. After that nothing about worlds is considered.

Even if, they should be at least included in teams that will probably get a spot :)

What I find form last year GP announcemet:

Medallists from the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships 2016 and the gold medallists from the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final 2015/16 will be included in the selection process. Skaters/Couples who have stated their intention to skate as Senior in the season 2016/17 might be included in the Grand Prix event(s) if they fulfil the requirements of the minimum Grand Prix score.

That sound like guranteed spot for Aleksandrovskaya/Windsor to me. Unless rules changed.

For the 2016/17 season, the ISU mentioned the guarantee in a GP preview that it published in October.

(In at least one or two preceding seasons, that is when/where the ISU mentioned the guarantee as well.)

Olympic and World Champions to compete in ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating 2016/17

17 Oct 2016 - Lausanne, Switzerland

... Medalists from the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships and the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final gold medalists are guaranteed one spot. ..

I've done a quick and dirty calculation on the ISU World Rankings after the data is scrubbed to remove the 2014/15 data and cut the 2015/16 data to 70% of its value.

where would Nic Nadeau fit in?

When the old WR data is scrubbed, Nic will be 47 on the WR list and he is 74th on the SB list. He's quaranteed no invitations with those stats. And he will probably need senior TES scores to qualify for the GP, which he could get in one of the early Challenge events. If he can get a good high score, he could be a viable substitute.

Just wondering, if spots are assigned using the SB list, why are the skaters on top of the SB list not *guaranteed* a spot?

Most of the skaters on top of the SB list are also in the top 12 at Worlds and so are already guaranteed two events.

Brendan could get two straight up! How exciting! And Katia and Harley on the GP! Wheeeeeeeeeeee! Do we think they could get a second? Maybe not straight up, but as alternates perhaps?

Do we even know the schedule of the events? I know that Skate Canada is October 26-29, and Skate America is November 24-26. I recall reading that Rostelecom Cup would be the week before Skate Canada...but now there are doubts that Russia will be allowed to host it, if I understand correctly. When is the French GP? NHK? It'd help folks out to have some idea of when things are if the schedule's getting switched up.

Even if, they should be at least included in teams that will probably get a spot :)

What I find form last year GP announcemet:

That sound like guranteed spot for Aleksandrovskaya/Windsor to me. Unless rules changed.

For the 2016/17 season, the ISU mentioned the guarantee in a GP preview that it published in October.

(In at least one or two preceding seasons, that is when/where the ISU mentioned the guarantee as well.)

Olympic and World Champions to compete in ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating 2016/17

17 Oct 2016 - Lausanne, Switzerland

... Medalists from the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships and the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final gold medalists are guaranteed one spot. ..

Thank you both will fix!!!

As chuckm already said, they would be, but I think that probably everyone you're thinking of already got 2 spots at Worlds. Usually at least 2/3 of the top SB scores are people already in the top 10-12 at Worlds; it's sometimes but very rarely even happened that the top 10-12 on SB list and top 10-12 at Worlds were identical (though to my knowledge never in exactly the same order )

Straight up unfortunately not, they are only 32 on the SB list which sounds pretty high but in pairs spots are tight. As 4everchan says though, these lists now are meant to account for before withdrawals and injuries. There are probably eight people above them who won't have a spot or in some cases second spot yet so the first two-three injured pairs (depending if they withdraw from one or both events) are not super likely to help them (since feds choose from the top 5) but if there are more than three injured pairs (which unfortunately seems likely) they'll be in the top 5 and probably have a good chance.

Polina Edmunds as 'return skater'? 8th at 2015 worlds, seasons best that year 34th in current list. Host pick also? Penny Coomes/Nick Buckland should also get in on this basis even if outside 24 Rankings. Any other skaters/couples out there who missed all of 2016/17 season?

No, to qualify for the comeback position you need to have previously been "seeded" meaning at some point unfortunately you had to place in the top 6 at Worlds. Polina's top finish was 8th, so not high enough; and Coomes/Buckland's highest was 7th if I'm not mistaken so not quite good enough either :(

I will add Polina as a possible host pick though, I do think she probably has a good chance of that especially assuming Gracie does manage to get 2 spots on her own.

Last years announcement has both 'Come-Back', top 6 as you say, and 'Return Skaters', positions 7 to 12 in 2014 and 2015. Moving things on a year 7 to 12 in 2015 should be OK. Penny/Nick 7th I think in 2016 so should be OK also - have to miss entire 2016/17 season.

Re Alexandrovskaya/Windsor: I was under the impression that JW champs get two spots automatically. Is that no longer the case or am I just totally out of touch?

I wonder if Hawayek and Baker will consider a coaching change and move to someone like Zueva? They need help with their pairing skills with their height being so similar. I think Johnny Johns could be a real help with lifts and Massimo with overall connection. I hope they keep their FD; it was so beautiful and never got its full due because of their FD mistakes at Nationals.

H/B are a lot like H/D. Lots of potential but prone to mistakes at the worst possible time. And in ice dance since there are no jumps mistakes like bad twizzles or a fall are a killer.

The only time when I'm almost always free is at midnight, I always prefer competitions when no one bothers me.

About GP series, most likely order will be 1. Skate Canada, 2. France, 3. Russia, 4. China, 5. NHK and 6. Skate América ??
