Patrick Chan rejuvenated by move to Vancouver:)
http://www.cbc.ca/sports/olympics/w...atrick-chan-olympic-training-canada-1.4455396
Chan was flying from Toronto to Edmonton on Monday night to work with Ravi Walia, coach of world silver medallist Kaetlyn Osmond.
Walia, who used to be a caller — a specialist on the judging panel who identifies and calls a program's elements, and their level of difficulty — has already been instrumental in rejigging a couple of jumps in Chan's free program.

"He's been great, he has a very analytical mind," Chan said. "He mentioned my element order was a bit off, so we had to switch things around."

That is good news indeed!!! Just wondering though will there be enough time? This move should have happened at least a couple of years ago, but of course better late than never...

Great news, all the best to Patrick. I still truly believe he can win.

Thank you for the post. I have really been wondering about him and hoping for the best. He sounds happy, and it sounds like he has the support he needs from Marina, Ravi, and his team in Vancouver so I am glad for him. I hope he has a great Nationals that will set him up to do his best at the Olympics.

I'm not sure if he can win (the Olympics or Worlds), but he can definitely do better than he did this fall.

I think what Sam L meant is Patrick can win his own battle after he felt discharged of energy after Skate Canada. Not to mention, he and Team Canada can win the Team Event at Pyeongchang.

Anyway, it is a good news to hear.

I am very much interested in seeing these programs.

Especially his SP to Dust in the Wind, which I think has the potential of being a signature piece that can bring down the house.

Have you not seen them yet? It's the same programs he had in Skate Canada, if you want to see them...

Yes, I've seen them. I want to see the reworked versions, and to see them skated to full potential.

He reworked the programs choreographically? I guess you can interpret that out of "reworking element order."

Anyway, I liked both programs already, so for me it's more seeing them clean anyway.

I'm just a fan, but wouldn't he have to make some choreographic changes is he's reordered the elements? A spin is a static element and a jump is a movement done at some degree of speed across the ice, so something had to change if he reordered those elements, wouldn't it? I don't think he could go barreling down the rink setting up for a 4-3 combo, but suddenly go into a camel spin. Or maybe he could. Or perhaps he's just reordering the spins, which I suspect would take a lesser amount of change. We'll see.

I don't mean to sound "doom and gloom" but whatever this "rejuvenation" that Patrick has worries me a great deal. I want him to have that Olympic gold more than anything since I think he's the one deserving it the most among the current men's field (don't get me wrong all the men are great and I "swoon" over Nathan and Shoma). But in order for him to get that Olympic gold or even stand on the podium Patrick needs to be focused and not going through "soul searching" like he's been doing until now.... I'm glad that he found what he needs to motivate him but is there still time until Pyeongchang... I'd love to be wrong and may be it's better late than never. We need Patrick to be "in the zone" and skate his heart out. When he does that it's very hard for anyone to beat him. Go Patrick! (no pressure)

As a Patrick fan, you should be thrilled!

The status quo, at least when we last saw him, leaves him off the podium, probably out of the last group of the free skate.

I've become a bit of a Patrick fan - admittedly late to the party after years of skepticism - and whatever he needed to do to turn the page... I'm all for it.

I suspected that Chan was facing a little depression and listlessness back at Skate Canada, so I'm happy he's acknowledged how he feels and has been making changes. I think he's the type of person who needs stimulation for inspiration and motivation, and on that note, Ravi should help him improve his jump technique. I think he'll be fine so long as he regains his stamina and doesn't pop his quads and combo-triples. I really hope he does well at Nationals because he definitely has the potential to make the Olympic podium again.

Great news! I am glad Patrick has found his motivation again, a lot of
elite skaters struggle with motivation issues from time to time and the changes
Patrick has made seem to be working out for him.

I am just happy that I will get to see his fabulous skating in Korea!

Nice bold move by Patrick. I am really happy for him to make the tough calls and do what is right. He needs inspiration, rejuvenation, not stagnation.

Osmond and Chan in the same team... Let's hope they can benefit from each other's best qualities...

It's about time................I've been a fan of Patrick's since the first time I saw him skate. Then when I met him and discovered what a very nice young man he is - that sealed it. I've hoped and hoped that he would get some technical advice. Fingers crossed for an excellent Olympic competition. I don't think there is a man on the ice today with his grace and smoothness and his ability to interpret music.

Go Patrick! :thumbsup::clap:
