Depends on what goes down with Russia though. Spain could get a Pairs team off the alternates list if Russia's 100% not competing (which will also make them eligible for the Team Event)

Ive been scratching my head on this whole Russia being banned, but athletes can still participate? If Russia as a country had to earn the spots in all Disciplines of Figure Skating how do they get to keep those spots that Russia earned since spots are not earned by individual athletes? And how would they even get to participate in the team event because again, the country "Russia" earn that as a country therefore if they are banned and their athletes can't participate representing Russia how can they even participate when they don't qualify as individuals but by countries in the sport of figure skating? Anyone figure that one out yet? lol Spain should probably get a spot then. So confusing why even bother banning a country then for doping. So confusing.

As a note, the period from now, Wednesday Dec 13 until Dec 21 is scheduled to be the time that the ISU will:

"...inform relevant NOCs regarding reallocation of quota
places that will have to be confirmed by the NOC within 24
hours. Lack of a NOC response to the ISU within this
deadline will be considered as a refusal of the offered quota
place."

How does the process work exactly?

In this period, if any quota spots have been given back to the ISU, the ISU will then offer the spots to the next nation on standby, in accordance with the rankings at Nebelhorn Trophy.

That makes sense; thanks!

Following their selection rules (sum of top 3 scores between GPs, Challenger Series and Nationals), Germany is expected to be:

Paul Fentz

Nicole Scott

Aljona Savchenko/Bruno Massot

Annika Hocke/Ruben Blommaert

Kavita Lorenz/Joti Polizoakis

That would be the Olympic debut for all of them except for Queen Aljona who will do her 100th OG. Seriously speaking, Pyeongchang will be her 4th Olympic participation. I think only her, Kostner and Zhang from Turin 2006 are still active.

Even her 5th Olympics, she already skated in Salt Lake City with Stanislav Morozov for Ukraine :p really impressive! It would be the 5th participation for Hao Zhang too. I wonder if some skaters already took part 6 times or more?
