I'm shocked at the animosity people have towards Vincent. I rewatched his short and watched Boyang's for the first time, and I was expecting Jin to be spectacular after reading how great he was.

Both of his quad's landings were imperfect. One set up a plume of ice, the other almost hit the board. Vincent's jumps, without benefit of slow motion, looked pretty good.

And even if he did luck out with an inconsistent judge, why blame him? Blame the IJS, which is so ridiculous and nitpicky and subjective that it probably ruined the sport in the US.

Vincent is hardly some favored son. He was left off of world's last year, he was left off the team in the Olympics and didn't get the bronze medal (and he was bumped by someone who did worse than him at the nationals and had about 5 fewer quads than he does). I'm sure he needs some work on his technique and skating skills, but he's a teenager. If he's still jumping the wrong way at 25, that's another thing altogether.

I saw the thread title and dropped in to congratulate Vincent on his third place finish in the SP. Quite an accomplishment for him.
I see there is a battle going on about the judging and scoring (surprise) so I will drop out.

Yeah, videos of skaters skating in competitions are "blatantly biased".

Just like the scores here. Wow, maybe you have a point.

Totally! I mean it makes perfect sense that there would be blatant bias towards American skaters in Italy.

Unless, of course, "I disagree with the judges' assessment of the skater" = "the judges are blatantly biased". Talk about amply clear!

Oh, yeah, just like everyone complaints about Canadian bias no matter where they are.

Lol, there's no Canadian bias for or against here at Worlds so far, IMO. The Canadian skaters are placing pretty much exactly where they should. And I say this with S/B, Austman and Nguyen not making the FS.

Just like the Americans, IMO, who are placing where they should.

People can cry home inflation when it's a home competition but then what's their argument when it's elsewhere?! In a country which has no vested interest in most disciplines save for ladies and maybe dance, so it's amply clear that bias is rather moot in such a setting.

That's what makes Zhou being 3rd that much more impressive. Okabe was tech controller and Markova was tech specialist btw. Ain't no Americans there.

Age does matter, if only because of the maturity in a Free skate (which we're all eagerly anticipating). I don't agree with Vincent on that, That said, I thought Vincent was great in his short. No, it's not artistically picture perfect, it's jump to jump with a bit of musicality (he has that) in between and his choreographers did a good job too. He skates young - and 17-year-olds tend to do that. True, there's the URs. But can't we just be glad for him? To me it's a bit like with Boyang (of whom I'm a fan), who can never do it right in some people's eyes. If it isn't about too many cross-overs (and don't forget, skating skills are also part of the deal and i sometimes wish I would see more good cross-overs with lovely edges) it's about underrotations - which of course should be called - and too jumpy a programme. Some even call his efforts the death of figure skating. I might like a bit more maturity and interpretation of the music, but such reamrks don't feel very fair. Vincent did Well in his SP (much better than at the OG). Congratulations!

I think Boyang was totally underscored but I had more problem with Nathan than Vincent, all jumps of Nathan looked so ugly :(. And I don´t think Vincent has worse interpretation of music than Kolyada, Boyang or Nathan, Kolyada was especially boring for me.

i agree 100% with everything you said except for kolyada lol, i cant believe there's actually such little uproar over nathan's score . . . whatever i guess i shouldnt be surprised anymore :disapp: yes, let's go after the skater with borderline URs instead of the one who cracked 100pts with horrible landings and zero presentation i mean cmon people

This thread is hilarious. When I saw four pages for this thread I knew exactly the sort of conversation that was going on in here.

Yes age does not matter as long as you're loved by USFA. He under-rotated his 4lz3T and still get no call. Who cares if his jumps are cheated? Because he is American and USFA is desperate to boost their men.

The thing is - if Yuzuru and Javi get 45+ PCS, then it's fair for Misha and Deniss to get around 40-41. But Zhou is not only 1 point lower than that. Italian Eurosport announcers were also baffled by this, according to them he should be a 6.5, not a high 7.5

Well I hope everyone is happy now! ><

I don’t root for people to fall. That was unfortunate.

That’s separate from the technical calls. He did deserve every UR call he received. I don’t feel pity that he was appropriately marked. Ideally, he’ll reassess his jump technique. If he wants the points, he needs to make the rotations, same as everyone else.
