I thought you might be interested in that. This is what I've found on skating in a German "Wochenschau" (newsreel) archive.

Does somebody know if there's anything comparable (nostalgic skating/newsreel) in the US? Thanx in advance! :)

Edited to add:
What is an "Ina Bauer"? Of course I know who she is, but what figure exactly does it mean? Sorry for my ignorance, but I'm not that into Ladies skating! ;)

The best way to understand this move would be to watch Shizuka's LP at the 2004 worlds and see her gorgeous Ina Bauer toward the end.

Here is a link to understand the Ina Bauer:

http://www.sk8stuff.com/f_recog/recog_g_bauer.htm

Actually I know nothing about the lady Ina Bauer except that she was the skater that invented that move. It is a very often done move in 2 of the 4 disciplines, and sometimes done in pairs. Tai & Randy had a GORGEOUS Ina Bauer move in their 1979 worlds LP. Kristi and Rudy had used it in theirs but it was not as well developed.

Paul Wylie used to do a wonderful Ina Bauer with a lot of extensions, great position, etc. So did Chris Bowman.

Among ladies Shizuka Arakawa and Yukina Ota have the best Ina Bauer right now. Katia Gordeeva also does a good Ina Bauer. Others that did it well were Debi Thomas and Tonya Harding- theirs were more athletic.

In the Ina Bauer the skates are moving almost parallel, but not quite as in the spread eagles because one leg is bent, while the skater bends backward. The amount of the bend depends on the flexibility in the back of the skater. This move is really beautiful when it is held for a substantial length of time, with great extensions, and when the back of the skater has a lot of flexibility, as in the case of Shizuka, Yukina, Paul, and Chris.

What a cool site, Germanice!

For English speakers, click on Anke's link (ignore all warnings about characters that it can't display -- that just means you'll miss a few umlauts and es-zets, LOL), then "home," then click on the British Flag for English, then "guest" (if you don't want to register), then under Search type "figure skating." Then click on "abspielen" for whichever clip you want to see. They're oldies but goodies. :)

Anke, for your viewing pleasure, here are some Ina Bauers

MICHELLE

OK, so this isn't my girl's best move. Still, just look at her!!!   And here's

SASHA

SARAH

I have never seen a picture of Ina Bauer doing an Ina Bauer. Here is Ina doing something else (a Michelle Kwan?)

Mathman :p

This is not from the US, but from Canada:

It's Donald Jackson's Web site. There are many pictures of past champions as well as pictures of Don.
Check it out!

Karen Magnussen did an awesome Ina Bauer; in fact, it was one of her "trademark" moves. Here is a picture of Ina Bauer, herself from Donald Jackson's site:
