I got an infraction defending the honor of Denis at the LP thread. I really feel and I know without a doubt he should have been silver over Hanyu.

I agree. Do you think this is due to lack of federation support (as well as the whole Olympic champion thing)?

My goodness, anyone know about Denis's dad and cancer issues? Apparently he hasn't been in LA much training this year due to his father's illness. Anyone know about that? They mentioned on the latest TSL recap on WC mens. So very sorry to hear that, thought he look a bit down this season, I figured has to do with bad results, injuries and didn't know anything about that.

I thought he has one of the best FS program this year, totally interesting and unique. I have some issues with the performance aspect, but it was such an ambitious program that require such versatility and attention to detail to highlight different cultural traits referenced in the music, I don't think even the very best of Patrick Chan may do it justice, unless doing it over 2 or 3 seasons. I am so impressed with him...and really look forward to his new programs next season. One of the few really interesting skaters out there in terms of attention to everything, good balance, thoughtful programs. Wish him very best of luck next season.

Sorry to learn about Denis' dad having cancer, and I hope and pray that he overcomes it. It is to Denis' credit that despite his family situation, Denis has performed as he has this season.

I agree about his FP being interesting and different from the usual skating fare. I think it shows Denis' range as he was at times playful, martial, and lyrical in that program.

Yuzuru has likened Denis to Alexei Yagudin, and I could see why. Besides both having been coached by Tarasova, both look so well-trained and beautiful on the ice.

I did not know that his dad is ill either. I cannot imagine how he handle the situation and still pull the season successfully to the end. I am so sorry....

I loved Denis' new programs since the first event, SA. Even though he was not perfect, he has the interesting choreos and skating qualities that kept my eyes on him all year. I am glad I was able to see the complete beautiful programs at 4CC and he finished his season on a high note. I would love to see the same program next year. Then, I watched his gala program, totally different from his competitive ones. I loved every moment of it. I keep repeating his skating and the Sam Smith song in my head over and over. With his innate talent to channel the music, I am looking forward to seeing a totally new program from him. Yes, I am thrilled for my favorite male skater and wish him all the best of luck!

The music incident in the SP was so unfortunate... can't help thinking it kind of threw him off a bit. Could have done much better.

The music incident in the SP was terrible. I have no doubt it was done intentionally. Because after he had said it was wrong, they didn't wait even a second to let him concentrate again, but instead started playing it almost before he had stood in his starting position. It would mess up anyone, because the quad is in the very beginning of the program, and instead of the concetration/readiness to do it, he had irritation and confusion over the incident. It is such a pity, because if that quad would be without a fall, D10 fairly would become a world champion. If it would happen with any "big federation" skater, who pretended on gold, it would be a big scandal. The intention obviously was to throw him out of the podium to put there someone else :frown: instead. I am glad at least that did not happen.

My first post here.
I don't want to say this way but...
Please, this is too much. Pure speculation. I like Ten. But I also know he is not famous for his consistency. No one can tell for sure if he would do well in the SP without that music problem. There is no proof at all. I think the music director was confused for a while. That's it.
The way you say it is not nice toward the Chinese Fed. After the SP finished for all men, their music went crazy again. You could not say it was on purpose. Maybe just a coincidence. And it was not the first time this happened. I have seen comments like in the next Olympic in Korea they will mess up Han Yan's music. I am really annoyed. And I don't think this kind of attitude do anything well for all skaters.

Welcome to Golden Skate! Post often.
I agree, let's not get into pointing fingers if we don't have the facts.
Denis did a good job in the SP, even with those mistakes. he kept himself on the podium and WON the FS. That's something to be really proud about. Not to mention, his FS costumes this year have been really nice.
Exotic, but not tacky and not boring. :cheer: My favorite costume is his WC costume.

I agree. Do you think this is due to lack of federation support (as well as the whole Olympic champion thing)?
Pure speculation. Japan lost 3 spots which was more important to them than the silver. They had no Japanese judges and specialist in men event both in SP and LP. If they have such big influence why didn't they use it to save Kozuka just 0.5 points? To maintain their 3 spots. Or if they were actually that strong, they could have increased Hanyu's PCS to give him the gold. They can always use the card "because Hanyu has much better staking still than Javi so he deserves much higher PCS". The usual tactics used by Canadian fed. But here they did not. Remember that Javi had the highest PCS of that night. His federation is not strong either. Or you assume Orser paid the judges?

Enough with the conspiracy. Denis had 2 major mistakes in the short and 2 small mistakes as turnout in the LP. Javi had one mistake and Hanyu had 3 in both programs (and the pop 4S did not even matter to casual viewer). You do not want to believe that bronze is right for Denis is up to you. The fact that top 3 virtually had the same PCS tells a lot. If there is any controversy it is in your head.

Last but not least: Congrats Denis on his Bronze. Very sorry to hear about his father. I hope he will stay strong.

First, I haven't blamed anyone in particular, what is too much? However, I cannot believe that this kind of mistake can happen on event of a SUCH level. It is not an easy-to-get-out of control mistake. When you hit play on a track, on any equipment it starts from the beginning unless you specially move the play button. Do you think the people who were assigned to do it did not check it every time they hit play? And again, the track would not just automatically start from 6-7 seconds later. I am saying that, because I just don't see any other way this could happen. If you do please suggest your version.
Whomever fault was that, it was terrible for Denis. In terms of consistensy, I am sure Denis is indeed consistant esp. relatively to other current men skaters. He just prepares better to certain events than to others. He was in great shape at 4CC and this Worlds, as it showed on him winning LP. And I don't understand why you mention his consistency as a way to justify this low incident. But certainly, those people who say that they would do the same thing with Han Yan have no dignity. Han Yan personally has nothing to do with it. This was the organization responsibility, and to me it does not matter what nationality was the organization, the issue was there.

If there is any controversy it is in your head.

You are funny. Do you really believe that there is no politics involved in ANY big sport, like in any sociums? If something happened that doesn't fit into our expectation of conspiracy, it only means that the consipiracy was more complicated than we thought. Or that the conspirasy is not strong enough to spread to the judges, like it was in Sochi. The fact, that Denis Ten, who has the Season Best of all men skaters, one of the main pretendents for gold or silver, with the strongest SP, and who, by coincidence represents the country with the weakest FS federation and minimum of FS fans, gets his music to be messed up in a very weird way, is a little too much, don't you think?
And thanks to people like you, this issue is not seen as anything special. That means, in the future we'll see similar incidents happen again.

You don't look wide enough. Satoko won over Elena by two points, which was absolutely unexpectable. Elena was ahead after SP, and both of them didn't skate FS clean: Satoko almost fell on one of her jumps while Elena doubled loop. However, the deciding factor was that Elena got both < and ! whereas Satoko got only one <, which is very argueble. Amano was a tech specialist there, but Lakernik was a tech controller next day in Men's FS. So he "paid off" by marking any < or e or ! that he could notice in Japanese men. Simple enough.
But anyway, this discussion is not supposed to be in this thread.

Or it could have simply been that, as everybody knows, Kozuka doesn't have good edges and underrotates constantly. Seriously, if they wanted to team up against small federations Javier wouldn't be World Champ, the difference with Yuzuru was very small and they certainly could have covered that difference with PCS if that were the case. And if the tech controller (and judges) was out for blood for the Japanese men, he could have taken enough points off Hanyu to move him to third and Denis would have been second, the difference wasn't that great either. It's incoherent that you say Denis had his medal stolen, but then proceed to say the tech controller was harder on the Japanese because of Satoko, when one of the Japanese men finished ahead of him. Elena did not have a good FS, she was sick, she finished 6th in the FS, Gold nailed it there but was too far behind from the SP, Satoko happened to be the one who skated well enough (not outstanding) on both days to keep a good place. Just like Javi on a lesser extent, 2nd on both days and ended 1st. JSF was betting on the men more than the ladies, if they had wanted to fix something, it would have been on the men's side (keeping 3 spots), not on getting Satoko on the podium.

Please, we are all well aware of the fact that politics play a big role here, but there's no reason to wrap ourselves within conspiracy theories that lead nowhere. Denis did an amazing job both days (regardless of the fall), his SP is one of the best of the season IMO, and he won the FS (And rightfully so, it was mind blowing). Congratulations on his medal, on having the highest SP and overall score of the season (I doubt that it will be passed at WTT), and for the fact that he keeps making history for figure skating in his country. Mistakes with the music happen everywhere and it can happen on a challenger event or it can happen at the Olympics, because it happened with a particular skater, it doesn't mean there was a conspiracy. If someone would have wanted to held him down, that's what PCS (specially IN and those subjective parts) are for, no need to change his music. They did it to him once that way (Worlds 2013 and I'm not going to open that can of worms), if they wanted, they could have done it again. It's best to celebrate the accomplishments than to sink in anger over what we think should have happened.

xibsuarz,
you are throwing everything in one pot. Noone would pull Yuzuru down because he is the strongest part of Japanese FS right now, like Tuktik in Russian, although Lakernik put him one <. PCS are put by miltiple judges, not tech stuff, so it is much harder to manipulate with them.
I am just curious to know when/where the similar thing with the music happened in the near past on the events like Worlds or Olympics as you mentioned?

One question: Are you writing fanfiction?

Do you know the more you talk, the more fictional it sounds?

I guess no logic could bring sense to you mind so let's end it here. You can dream of all the conspiracy all you want. I am sure even Denis would find your conspiracy over the top.

Wasn't meaning any specific example, but referring as to it can happen in any competition, regardless of how important it is or not. Because well, it's handled by humans. And well, IMO, regardless of how PCS is handled by multiple judges, I think it's even easier to manipulate those since there is no solid base for the criteria as the tech side. But, ok I get it, I've made my point and you have made yours :) I'm still very happy for Denis and wish his dad can get better soon.
