Some of their problems in the FD were their own, but some were due to their coach not being one of the experienced COP choreographers... he created an amazingly moving blues dance, and the kids executed it with total passion. They lost points due to falling in a spin, but also due to some points left on the floor due to flawed design of the original step sequence they opened with, and to not having the required change of tempo in the FD.

It was the most amazing 12th place dance I have ever seen, at least since the COP era. It reminds me how powerful a dance can be when composed as an artistic composition rather than a competitive rule beater.

I pray they get a second assignment.

BTW, an interesting person who donated to their GoFundMe was Jirina Ribbens. She used to do research for the ABC coverage of skating when the commentators were Dick Button and Jim McKay. You could always see her at competitions, often wearing a suit blazer with a strawberry pattern. She used to skate for Belgium in the dark ages.

She would be someone who knows exciting new talents when she sees them :)

I was really wondering why they got 4 pt. deduction. I got the falls.
It was after reading the musical requirements that I kinda got it. Your post, however, pretty much validated it. :)

But I did enjoy watching both their RD and FD. They're so expressive. I do wish that they'll be given a second assignment. Please?

Thanks for making the FF! I was blown away by this team both yesterday and today; they are incredible. The stsq in their RD, the hydroblade and reverse lift in the FD, the skating and expression through it all—I am so genuinely thrilled and excited to see how they develop! And I’m sure they’ll rework the FD to pick up some of those points for their next outing—hopefully soon!

I'm a new fan!!! I couldn't believe how good their RD was and they completely blew me away today. Such amazing power and expression!!! Their powerful style reminds me of the Parsons a bit.

Can you believe they are THIS good at 13 and 15??? Imagine what another 2-3 years will do!! I haven't been this impressed by a Jr team in years, if ever. Way to go, kids!

By the way check out that they have performed with Ice Theatre of New York. There is vid here:

I have added quite a bit to their fan fest, and will try to hunt up their Competitive History in USFS stuff.

But it would be just like USFS to not give them a second outing, due to the ninth place finish. And that they are from the Hinterlands of New York and New Jersey...

Thanks for digging up all the videos! I hope USFS will pay attention to the fact they got in the final group in their first JGP, not to mention it was also their international junior debut (since they didn't do the International portion of Lake Placid).

The Parsons was also 9th in their JGP debut way back in 2011 and they got a second event.

ETA: That SD is the 3rd highest out of the six teams so far. That gives them a case as well.

I only watched the RD after I’ve seen their FD, so I didn’t know what to expect today. First 10 seconds I was impressed and first 30 seconds I was wowed at their on-ice presence. It is not easy to interpret Gary Moore blues but they nailed it, the program getting more impressive as it went on. Oona smiling at the judges as she lifted her brother further made that a special highlight. Based on the spin entry before they fell, that could have been another innovative element. I too hope they get another JGP so that more people can become fans of them :).

I wouldn't keep my hopes up about a second event, the US has a lot of talent and there are limited spots. Its certainly possible, say if Gunter/Wein don't do well next week or they decide to take Efimova/Petrov's one event away or the Greens aren't ready. They might also need to rework their FD to avoid deductions. They should definitely get sent to any available junior bs though, and I'd keep an eye on them for Nationals. Can't wait to see them continue to develop!

I like how expressive they are and how they continued after the fall. They are fighters. Also their coached did wonderful job, no matter the deductions. And how come they were not warned earlier that the program does not cover all the requirements.

The best tribute I can pay them is that for my afternoon walk I downloaded a Gary Moore playlist to listen to.

And how come they were not warned earlier that the program does not cover all the requirements.
They presumably thought it did. Notice that the US and Canadian judges were the only ones who didn't vote for the tempo change violation, so perhaps it's a regional difference of opinion.

I've not yet watched their RD but their FD took my breath away, it was incredible even with the error and was the first ice dance performance I've been captivated by since the ShibSibs at the Olympics and wow I love this team so much. Now I have another team to root for besides the Shibs :) and I can't wait to see them develop and mature, I hate that they'll have to change the FD but I know they'll work at it and make it even better, and fix that darned spin. I hope that they can have a great season and career, and that their financial issues get sorted out, because these two are clearly going places.

I love these two; what a pleasant discovery. I'm most impressed by the fact that they both have such wonderful basics already- unfortunately, this is not present in a lot of top teams, junior and senior. Their programs were enjoyable and that lift reminded me of Anissina/Peizerat, great fun.

Amazing new team.. I enjoyed both RD and FD so much!! Great relief that the future state of US Figure Skating Ice Dance is in good hands with our junior teams and that lift in the latter part of the FD reminded me too of Gwendel and Marina.. great fun!!

Thank goodness! They have a second JGP assignment at JGP Yerevan (week 7)

Can still be changed though. They are currently placeholders. It depends on how well others do. If for example, Gunter/Wein do better at JGP Canada, they would likely be switched out. I hope they keep it though.

With the Greens being bumped from JGP Ostrava, the chances of the Browns getting a second assignment regardless got significantly higher. While I am still hoping the Greens will be ready for at least the final event, I admit at this point that's some wishful thinking and I should just be happy to see them at Nationals.
