Yep, all the skating World Feed Streams for today on the Eurosport Player disappeared at some stage before competition started this morning. :eek: :eek: :eek: :mad: :mad: :mad:

I had forgotten to do a placeholder for my Competition Reminder post for the Short Dance last night, so since I was awake, I got up to do it at the time it was due to come on. I waited until after the first partnership were due to start, but it didn't appear.

And the same happened when the time came for the Pairs FS.

So, there was no coverage on the Player at all. And judging by some of the comments in the competition threads, a lot of the other streams people are using weren't working either.

At least for the Pairs FS there will be highlights on the linear channels in between the Ladies FS and the Men's FS. But, there are no highlights planned for the Short Dance.

This is seriously messing up my plans for today. I was intending watching the Short Dance before the Ladies (since Eurosport aren't showing highlights of it), and then watch the TV coverage of the Ladies and Pairs before going out to Ju-Jitsu. That would mean I would only have the Men 's FS to watch this afternoon. But, it now looks like I will have to watch the Men and the Dancers (if videos appear) this afternoon. And I'm not sure I'll get them all fitted in before the Formula 1 Qualifying coverage starts.

It's been a while since I last had reason to feel like this, but I am really peeved off with Eurosport today. Like, I am paying them for a service, and have ended up not getting a big chunk of the thing that was the reason that I got the service for in the first place!

Don't forget you get ESP1 and ESP2 on the Player too. But, that's still no use for the things that weren't shown on them!

Plus, I really miss having the ability to switch over to the World Feed to watch the Introductions and the Warm-Ups when the linear channels are on adverts. And the Podium Ceremonies, which Eurosport never stays on air long enough for.

I am already in a pissy mood (real life has been horrible) and not in the mood for such questions. Told them it’s a confirmed European-wide issue and the problem is at their end, not mine. Ggggrrrr

I understand that you cannot find some figure skating videos on the Replay section.

Please remember that as a broadcaster of sporting events, we are subject to strict rules regarding the broadcasting rights. We therefore cannot guarantee the availability of all the events broadcasted Live on the Replay section.

Also, the VODs available might remain on our platform for up to 30 days. However, I cannot give you an exact information regarding the minimum availability period as the broadcast rights differ. This might explain why these videos are not available anymore on the platform.

I hope this clarifies the situation for you and please let me know if you have any further questions.

Useless. Of course I was talking about the LIVEstream (as well as the VOD/Replay, but hello, livestream = live!!! Not on demand, gggrrr).
Utterly useless.

And of course, now it doesn’t matter anymore, because all streams are available on eurovisionsports.tv (archived ones aren’t geoblocked, at least not for the Netherlands, so I assume the same goes for the other European countries).

Don't worry, I realise it was my own fault for not checking the Eurovision Sports website again this morning. But, I wanted to get stuck in, so that I could at least start my breakfast before the Gala.

Thankfully, we didn't have the same problems this morning.

And I hope we don't have them again for the rest of the season! :agree:

But, lo and behold: an actual answer to my latest lengthy email to Eurosport!

I have checked with our programming team and I would like to inform you that an incident has occured during the NHK Japan figure skating Grand Prix.

This may shift or change the scheduled broadcast of our programmes without prior notice and for reasons beyond our control. This is the reason why these events haven't been broadcasted.

We truly apologize for this experience and we thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

So the Ladies Free, Pairs Free and Rhythm Dance don’t have commentary free streams? Frustrating but par for the course. A month later they still haven’t sorted the video names on PS4.

You can view the no-commentary streams on eurovisionsports.tv
But yeah, not available via Euroaport player. :-(

I kinda expected that, due to the Northern Ireland Open being this week, and British Eurosport being the host broadcasters of it.

Plus, we have ski sports come the weekend. There is the first round of the Ski Jumping World Cup and the second round of the Alpine Skiing World Cup.

The TV Schedule post might be appearing a bit later than normal this week. I have been working on a few posts that I HAVE to get up on Facebook today, and I am going away tomorrow. If I get the Facebook posts finished early enough, I'll get as much of the TV Schedule post done this afternoon as I can.

EDIT: I take it there is a mistake in the labelling of the programmes. Like, surely they wouldn’t show a repeat of the Men’s SP on their linear channels at exactly the time that the Pairs SP is happening LIVE. Like, not even Eurosport would do something that stupid, would they…​

EDIT: I take it there is a mistake in the labelling of the programmes. Like, surely they wouldn’t show a repeat of the Men’s SP on their linear channels at exactly the time that the Pairs SP is happening LIVE. Like, not even Eurosport would do something that stupid, would they…​

Oh yes they would... Actually there's just a fractional overlap with ski-jumping 4.45 p.m. to 6 p.m., but as we well know the end of a livestream tends to be actually a few minutes after the end of the competition. However as we saw with the Men's free at Helsinki they're not just prepared to delve deep enough to see what they can really do - there there was 25 minutes between the end of the skating and the start of the New York Marathon, so if they weren't prepared to do it then, and at something where they''d already shown the other 7 segments live then they're certainly not going to do it for Rostelecom.

Also on the Saturday evening there's no live sport on E2 at all after 5 p.m., so they could easily show highlights of the ladies and pairs free if they so wanted - they do clash live with live ski-jumping, but no, you'll have to wait till the top 3 in the highlights programme on Monday/Tuesday. In the meantime they'll be showing cyclo-cross round 3 highlights from Switzerland for about the 30th time, plus also repeating the same cycling tour highlights from China, once at 6.15 pm. and once at 10.45 p.m. It just shows how low skating has fallen on their radar, the only good thing for us is it tends to be at a quiet time of year, and it does enable them to fill their schedules if there's nothing on - I was looking at next week and the 2 hour highlights programme is on a lot, but of course we'd much prefer something closer to the time, and fuller, even if it's only highlights, and even if it was at some really obscure time - we could always dig it out of the schedules.

Brilliant coverage on British Eurosport’s linear channels on Friday, with LIVE coverage of possibly all the Shorts (there is a question mark over the Pairs SP). But come the weekend, there is absolutely no LIVE coverage. :eek:

Well, there is coverage labelled as the Ladies Free for part of the time that the competition is actually happening. It might be LIVE coverage of the second group, or it might be something else. It’s hard to know with Eurosport.

Apart from that, the only skating on the linear channels over the weekend is highlights of the Free Dance at quarter to midnight on Sunday.

At the moment, this is just British Eurosport, as I wanted to get the post up. But, I’ll add in the other versions later on today, and tomorrow.

Well, there is coverage labelled as the Ladies Free for part of the time that the competition is actually happening. It might be LIVE coverage of the second group, or it might be something else. It’s hard to know with Eurosport.

Apart from that, the only skating on the linear channels over the weekend is highlights of the Free Dance at quarter to midnight on Sunday.

At the moment, this is just British Eurosport, as I wanted to get the post up. But, I’ll add in the other versions later on today, and tomorrow.

I'm not so sure about live coverage of the shorts. My Sky schedule has Rostelecom highlights 1.45 p.m. to 3.45 p.m., rather than than the Men's Short which is going on at exactly the same time... (this is Eurosport after all). Also no sign whatsoever of pairs short on the linear channels, plus not on the Saturday.

Re Saturday, I've checked the coloured time schedule and the Ladies Free live should be the 2nd group, the timings are right, but people may need to be a bit careful at either end if recording, they may cut across to it slightly earlier than 7 p.m., there's a 5 minute news programme beforehand which might just get dropped, plus I would expect the Free to end just after the scheduled 7.45 p.m., so you may just lose the end of the final skater if recording, may be OK, maybe not.

Mmmm. I haven't looked at the Sky listings, as I find it easier just to work from the ESP Player website as it does both the linear channels and the streaming.

Ah. Thank you for pointing these differences out. The ESP Player website doesn't have detailed descriptions - it just has a title. So when I saw 2 lots of skating on at the same time after dinner time, I assumed they were both the Men's SP. It never even crossed my mind that the TV channel programme could be something else.

You have actually pointed out the one thing that I did change from how it appeared on the website. The BES2 programme on Friday from 19:15 – 20:00 GMT is actually labelled as being the Short Dance. But, given that the LIVE coverage of the Pairs Short starts around the same time, I assumed that it was a labelling mistake.

However, it didn't actually twig with me that the whole competition wouldn't have got completed within that timescale. And because of the way the page is laid out an hour at a time, I didn't notice that the Men's SP highlights that followed also overlapped with the Pairs SP competition. So, it may be that they are actually planning on showing highlights of what happened earlier in the day instead of LIVE coverage of the Pairs SP.

So, in light of these question marks, I will actually change what it says in my list above.

By the way, I meant to reply to your comment from last week. I still don't understand why they didn't show the Pairs SP, because the ski jumpers didn't actually start coming down until the top of the hour (17:00 BST). By which stage the Pairs SP was long finished (by nearly 20 minutes). They could easily have showed the Pairs until they were finished, and gone over to the lead-in to the ski jumping qualification. Hey, they wouldn't even have needed to shorten the lead-in, because Eurosport doesn't normally hang around for long after the results table for the skating is shown!

Mmmm. I haven't looked at the Sky listings, as I find it easier just to work from the ESP Player website as it does both the linear channels and the streaming.

Ah. Thank you for pointing these differences out. The ESP Player website doesn't have detailed descriptions - it just has a title. So when I saw 2 lots of skating on at the same time after dinner time, I assumed they were both the Men's SP. It never even crossed my mind that the TV channel programme could be something else.

You have actually pointed out the one thing that I did change from how it appeared on the website. The BES2 programme on Friday from 19:15 – 20:00 GMT is actually labelled as being the Short Dance. But, given that the LIVE coverage of the Pairs Short starts around the same time, I assumed that it was a labelling mistake.

However, it didn't actually twig with me that the whole competition wouldn't have got completed within that timescale. And because of the way the page is laid out an hour at a time, I didn't notice that the Men's SP highlights that followed also overlapped with the Pairs SP competition. So, it may be that they are actually planning on showing highlights of what happened earlier in the day instead of LIVE coverage of the Pairs SP.

So, in light of these question marks, I will actually change what it says in my list above.

By the way, I meant to reply to your comment from last week. I still don't understand why they didn't show the Pairs SP, because the ski jumpers didn't actually start coming down until the top of the hour (17:00 BST). By which stage the Pairs SP was long finished (by nearly 20 minutes). They could easily have showed the Pairs until they were finished, and gone over to the lead-in to the ski jumping qualification. Hey, they wouldn't even have needed to shorten the lead-in, because Eurosport doesn't normally hang around for long after the results table for the skating is shown!

Yes, I think they've got in a bit of a quandary re skating on the Friday, problem is there's very little live sport on on the Friday, but masses on the Saturday and Sunday - even ski jumping has been relegated to highlights only. We'll have to see what happens with Men's SP, it may just be a labelling error - I would recommend anybody recording to definitely record it even though it says Rostelecom highlights.

However they may have compromised and gone for 2 live i.e. Dance + Ladies as they're going to show something of these on the Saturday, then maybe Men's Short Highlights for luck (but there's no sign of Men's Free highlights), but then dropped the idea of Pairs altogether because there's no chance of showing it on Saturday.

All in all it's a real shame because there's 11.25 hours, believe it or not, of figure skating scheduled for Friday on E2 i.e. 1.45 p.m. to 1 a.m., but in all that time there's only 2 new SPs live and 1 hour of new highlights, everything else is a repeat of one form or another. However if they'd shown all 4 SPs live people would have been complaining why show the SP and not the LP, this particular weekend they can't win (unless of course they'd managed to show more highlights on the Saturday).

Re the Pairs live last weekend, yes they could have shown it, it's just a bit symptomatic of the way things have been going. For example on Saturday they were meant to show Free Dance highlights but instead showed the Men's SP, talk about a howler. I even wrote to them about it, but they just sent a standard response re things out of control, weather etc. (skating's indoors!), so yes more of the same I'm afraid, though I would give them a slight benefit of the doubt. TV schedules for listings have to be sorted out a week and a half minimum e.g. for printing weekend TV guides, so it depends what happened on the initial contact between the ISU and Eurosport. However you would hope they would revisit it closer to the time, but obviously not.

I’ve become numb to the schedule craziness at this point. It’s my hope that they can try to have commentary on everything for the GPF but considering it’s in Vancouver I’m not hopeful.

Yes, time zones may not be so good. However there is one thing to watch out for that would be brilliant. The time zone would be really good for juniors and you never know we might just get Alexandra Trusova et al. in the JGPF. I know a couple of years ago we got Anastasiia Gubanova and Alina Zagitova setting back to back world records with fantastic skates in the juniors, and you never know we might just be lucky again, though of course figure skating seems to have definitely dropped in their priorities since.
