According to a file from Chinese the Taipei Skating Union website,

http://ctsu.com.tw/2019/2019-亞洲公開花式滑冰錦標賽-代表

Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy will happen August 7-11, 2019 at Dongguan, China. It looks like the Challenge Series Asian Open Figure Skating Classic, October 30 - November 3, 2019 at Taipei City, is a new competition.

I wonder if somebody can confirm the info from the Chinese side.

We have no idea too. LOL

We heard about the Asian Open Trophy in Dongguan held by Hongkong skating fed earlier. Then I thought that later the Asian Open was moved to Taipei. But the recent arrangement from Taipei skating fed seems to say they are two different events.

Also, the ISU website has no information about the Asian Open Trophy in August. the link about the Asian Open Classic is https://isu.org/figure-skating/even...-open-figure-skating-classic?templateParam=11

But if the Taipei fed who will held the Asian Open Classic send a team to Asian Open Trophy, that might means they know these are two different events.

Asian Open Trophy usually changes location each year... Taipei, Hongkong, Bangkok, Manille... Dongguan already in 2011.

Asian Open Classic is a completely new event.

There's an Asian Junior Figure Skating Challenge too, held 4 times by year in China and Hongkong, but they quite never communicate the results...

I just the Hong Kong Skating Union website. They do have Asian Open Skating Trophy in August in their calendar.

http://hksu.org/en_US/home/events

I do recall that before the announcement of CS events (2019), I also saw this link from HK skating Union. But later on the CS event with another 'Asian Open' is announced, so there were discussion if these two are the same event (or not).

And the list in the 1st post was by Chinese Taipei Skating Union. There was a local competition to select team members few weeks ago. This file simply confirms that there will be a 'Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy 2019' to be held in Dongguan, China (date is temporarily set as Aug 7-11). It also makes sense if Hong Kong skating union is hosting the event. But it's not clear what level of event will it be....is it another B-level event? As for Asian Open Figure Skating Classic, now it looks like just another new CS event to be held in Asia during Nov.

Some updates about the Asian Open FS Classic:

Unfortunately, in the recent updates of ISU CS events general announcement 19-20, this event originally to be held by Chinese Taipei State Union no long exist. Instead, it will be replaced by the 'Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy', to be held in China, Dongguan, and hosted by Hong Kong SU.

It seems that ISU didn't make any announcement or statement re. the relocation/cancellation of the originally planed CS event in Taipei. But from the local Chinese news in Taiwan, it is reported that the CTSU just received the notification from ISU about cancelling the CS event. According to the statement from ISU (as reported in local news and also CTSU website), it is due to the current international affairs, Taiwan is not suitable for holding any international FS competitions. It's ISU's decision to cancel the event.

For the local CTSU, the news kind of coming out of nowhere as the preparation of the original scheduled event has been underway.

The following is the local news (in Chinese) to report on what happened. And the CTSU's website is still down after the announcement was made earlier today.

The fall-out from this débâcle is getting very messy. Seems that what the CTSU said initially in their statement wasn't the whole story:

http://focustaiwan.tw/news/aeas/201908020014.aspx

On a slightly different note, according to the ISU calendar that I printed out back when it was released in May, the first of the Asian Opens was supposed to be happening this coming week. From what I understand, this Dongguan event has taken the slot of the cancelled Taipei event. So, what I want to know is whether there is still a Senior B being held in Asia during the summer. Or do the Asian skaters have to wait until October for their first international competition on their patch?

If there hasn't been another Senior B hastily arranged to replace the one that has been shifted to Hallowe'en week, it is not fair on the skaters who are now missing out on an early season competition.

It is the Junior skaters that not having a competition in early August will affect the most, as it would have been a good opportunity to get valuable feedback before the start of the Junior GP Series.

CTSU messed up in the announcement. Both ISU and HKSU posted a different story. And the chairmen of CTSU resigned for some reason. The east Asian politics are pretty messy and I'm not gonna dig too much about that.

The Asian Open is Dongguan will be a Senior B. But the time is not that good. An early season senior B is fantastic with new programs and big stars but now it's the same time with the GPs the big stars will not be there. Also the Asian Open is just several days before COC so most Chinese skaters will not be there for sure.
