I carved some time to watch few performances today, so few loose thoughts...

I definitely liked junior RDs more than senior ones, and it is quite surprising for me as I expected to feel a bit of a dread with junior RDs due to this Teatime Foxtrot pattern I am not the biggest fan of. But these junior programs I watched really made me feel like it is possible to not have a generic program with this kind of pattern.

I really love Emmy & Aissa - the look, the attitude, a bit of cheekiness, the flow of choreography and their musicality in it. I like that there's no disturbance between movement & music, it is well cut and choreo matches the accents/rhythm changes. They use well-known pieces from 'Cabaret', but I don't feel that the program loses by that - like with Browns and Nadiia/Peter I do feel like there's a great balance between having a well-functioning vehicle from technical/requirements standpoint and capturing the essence of muducal/story vibe in it. They are making their 'Cabaret' show-y, but not flashy, I like these side-by-side little dance sequences, how well they seem to 'connect' with the music and each other within the performance. There's also a nice balance between them looking quite 'grown-up' and still having that youthful energy out there, just more sleeked out. They need to clean out some transitions, get more glide into the pattern, but this is a great promise and solid start I think.

Browns impressed me very much - they may be short in height and young of age, but I see a lot of control, refinement and maturity in their skating, how they carry themselves, how the energy flow in this brother/sister duo. This is a very good vehicle alone in my opinion (music cuts are veeery good and there's distinct musical-y vibe to the whole piece, show-y in the best sense of this word) and it gets even better in Oona/Gage's hands (and legs) - I like that they inject just the right amount of attitude into the piece (the gestures/expression), focusing on musicality, accents, getting the flow in holds/of movement along with the rhythm. It was not 'overplayed', too 'jazzy hands' kind of performance, but more of making a good, sassy time to the music, keeping things in check, but with a dose of 'wink' to it. I do think that the great asset at this point is that they do not force the interpretation/performance bravado out of them - the whole thing looked quite natural, unforced, but not yet effortless; for my unexper eye, the pattern could flow better, their lines could match better in it, also the coverage could be improved. Otherwise, it is a pleasure to see them developing in programs like this, their speed and control for where they are now are impressive to look at.

Nadiia & Peter made me smile, such charming program! And vanity side says a lot of love for that lilac dress, both costumes are making this RD so good into the character of the music & story told. I like that the program flows simultaneously with story told by expression and performance quality - I love these little touches while them being in holds (and I really like their look while being in hold, quite elegant and in synch with costuming, story, music, yet not generic or too stiff), how clever choreo highlights some musical accents making this whole thing more 'alive' and drawing attention.

Makita/Guinara looked fun & engaging in this 'Hairspray' RD - I like this choice for them, something energetic. I just wish it was skated with more crispness to it, cleaner and better on transitions' quality.

Just watched Bronsard/Bouaraguia FD - I really like the idea of Bowie medley, just not fully sure about how the concept was realized in choreography. Maybe it's just the lack of mileage and it being first serious performance of the program, but I find the program a little too 'flat' and not emboding Bowie's spirit/character as an artist that much (maybe it was just not the focal point and I am just ranting over it too much, could be!). I wish they were given such program in 1/2 seasons in the future where they would be able to get out more nuance over this music and character embedded in it... Nevertheless, the program has its interesting moments and attitude shown in terms of performance showmanship and what I actually appreciate is treating the music with certain freedom to it, enjoying the moment of expressing in their own right, not strictly committing into Bowie's persona strongly present through his music. It will be interesting to see this FD grow and progress

I really like it and think it will grow BUT all I could think while watching it was that I would love to see Fear and Gibson do this FD...

I just don’t know about a junior team do Bowie medley as a competitive program, don't feel it right now, maybe it will grow on me. I think it takes a bit more mature performer's consciousness and bravado to embody Bowie's music & character in right way, not overpowering the material with 1:1 kind of tribute skate, but to treat music as a source of inspiration to express Bowie's artistic attitude freely, yet within control & refinement.

LOTS of potential here. Love their skating skills! Too bad she missed the first twizzle but good recovery afterwards. Development is needed but a team to watch.
