Seeing Nam win a medal made me teary. After all those highs and mostly lows, to manage to triumph finally in your own home country, it was truly spectacular to watch.

Also, for the first half I thought he wasn't one to sell a program (since he looked sort of tentative) but once the second half started, truly there was no doubt that he knows showmanship. I hope he goes higher and higher from this.:cheer2:

what really marked a breakthrough for nam was his pcs.... 86 for him is AMAZING new territory... he's always had to deal with high 70s, at best low 80s even in his cleanest performances. Of course, some guys get 10 points higher.. but if Nam can remain consistent in his skating and judges start seeing him as a mid 80s kind of guy, it will make a huge difference on where he can land at big events like worlds

Is there is anyone realistically that thinks that Gilles & Poirier is actually ready to challenge for world titles???...i hope, but...i won't hold my breath...

If by "world title" you mean "World medal", then...maybe? We're not very far into the season, we'll see how their scores at events outside Canada stack up. There's all kinds of variables there (beyond the obvious one of how they themselves skate), including things like how the Hubbell/Donohue vs. Chock/Bates internal US fight plays out, what happens at Four Continents, and so on.

Also of note, two events in we've equaled the number of Grand Prix medals won last season - and so far it's 1 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze versus 1 silver and 3 bronze, so a qualitative step up too.

Nobody at IdF is a real medal contender, so the next chance to add to the total will be Cup of China.

I hope whoever represents Canada at Worlds works their butt off to gain back spots for the next Olympics. I wish Nam and Keegan never had to battle it out for the one spot (but they only have themselves to blame).

I was unaware that Nam was a medal contender...but he exceeded expectations, so maybe one of them can surprise????
Nic in theory has the jump content, but he'd need a big step up in consistency to make the podium in France (plus, back-to-back events). But I guess anything can happen in a men's event.

Camille & Drew I don't see any real possibility. They don't have the elements to compete with the top pairs.

Carolane & Shane, on their best day, I think could finish fourth. Beating Smart/Diaz internationally would be a real feather in their cap. But getting on the podium would mean beating Guignard/Fabbri, and that's not going to happen.

Of the 2 GP's this season and I know it's early, but his is the 3rd best total score to date. A clean short and he could go higher. Nice to see him so happy after SC.

SMART / DIAZ earned 191.01 at SA---that's almost 10 points higher than what SOUCISSE / FIRUS scored at their last outing, US Intl. And S/D beat S/F at both Lake Placid and the SC Autumn Classic. Hard to picture a reversal at IDF.

Hence, I said, "on their best day". I didn't say it was likely to happen.

No,not realistically. Come on the French are so far ahead if not talent wise certainly in the eyes of the judges. They would be lucky to win a medal. They have to deal with the Italians, 2 American teams and 2 Russian teams. A medal would be a huge accomplishment.

Yes, Gilles & Poirier would probably only have a shot at the bronze.

Realistically, it may take them another season or two to get in that position. But based on the Skate Canada results, they are now getting the #1 Canadian Dance team bonus since V&M and W&P have left the stage. So that's a good start.

I'm fairly certain no one wants to rewatch Roman Sadovsky's performances, as his scores in both segments were lower than at last year's SCI. :scard8:

I have been trying to find a video of Nic to re-watch the cute interaction he had with one of the flower girls over a thrown animal (it's from 5:30 on if someone wants to see it).

I would actually like a video of Roman's free skate (including him leaving the ice), in case the youtube version disappears or is blocked. He picked up one of our animals!

I don't know what to make of Gabby. I am a bit crushed. I watched The Skating Lesson and they just dumped on her. I am a bit confused - has she only been training for a few weeks? Her skate was not bad if that is the case in my opinion.

Let's look at your own post from October 11:
This is "good" to hear in a way. I thought she had been skating since September or August. If it is two weeks this is not bad. I thought we had another Gracie Gold with Gabby but this is different. I am not sure though she should have competed here but maybe it is j ust to test her nerves as well.

Watching Nam's skate made me so happy, it's not only that he landed all his jumps, but there was this great connection that you as an audience can feel his energy, excitement and joy. It was great! I hope to see more of such wonderful performance from him:luv17:
