If you haven't already seen Jordan's work, please check out on Instagram @oniceperspectives

He is at the Autumn Classic this week doing some behind the scenes stuff. He posted on his story that Skate Canada asked him to do some stuff for them, but that he can't post it before they do.

He also posts extra content on Patreon for supporters.

I really appreciate his unique "on ice" perspective - both as a former skater himself and also from the vantage point of following the skater(s) on the ice and filming at ice level.

Has anyone ever had the privilege of being filmed by Jordan for @oniceperspectives ?

2019 Autumn Classic International - Day 1 Recap - Skate Canada / On Ice Perspectives

(meaning a recap of Wed Sep 11)

https://youtu.be/hNrWbrwqO08 (5:54, published on Sep 12)

One of my favorite parts is the men's hockey players watching the ACI ladies practice.

ETA (on Sep 13):

Lest anyone wonder: When I originally posted the video link, it was not unlisted -- although it later was changed to unlisted.

But the unlisted video now is embedded on a Skate Canada page: https://skatecanada.ca/2019/09/on-ice-perspectives-wednesday-at-aci/ (Sep 13)

Infinite thanks to Jordan Cowan for all that he has been doing and continues to do.
His talent and passion are amazing.

Jordan’s skill and raw talent as a skating videographer is absolutely out of this world. I literally squeal with excitement whenever I see a new video pop up on his Instagram account.

If you haven’t seen it yet, search for and watch his video of V/M’s Moulin Rouge, which I believe was filmed at one of their stops on their Thank You Canada Tour last fall. The tiniest, subtle, most intricate details of the choreography that one wouldn’t see if not up close like Jordan gets is beyond mind blowing.

Yes, I am really rooting for this guy to get the recognition he deserves! Really, what he does take so much SKILL (skating skills to keep up with the subject, an eye for capturing the performance from the right angles, and MANAGING A CAMERA AT THE SAME TIME!!!!). I love his work and I'm completely in awe of what he does. I can't even follow my kid with the GoPro on the ice....LOL.

I love his videos, I wish there was one for every skater! He is doing something really special. I wish I had enough money to be a patron!

None other than Todd Eldredge recorded some great video with Jordan Cowan as the subject. :luv17:

It shows how fluidly Jordan himself moves -- seamlessly capturing different perspectives by gliding alongside/around/behind/in front of skaters and by adjusting his shot (tighter/wider, higher/lower) as he goes.

Some of Todd's words of admiration:

I love the way Jordan looks like he has his own choreography set to the music while he's videoing Alexa & Chris! ...

Jordan Cowan will stream ENTIRELY LIVE elite skating on Mon Aug 3 at 2 pm ET on the On Ice Perspectives channel on YouTube:

In case anyone missed Jordan's announcement on Instagram:

... this MONDAY, August 3rd at 11am Pacific Time, @LAEliteIce and @OnIcePerspectives are hosting an *ENTIRELY LIVE* skating exhibition, shot from the literal On Ice Perspective! ...

And it’s completely free to watch! ...

https://www.instagram.com/p/CDWzv12pa6W/ (Aug 1)

Although Jordan has not yet named specific skaters, the likes of Starr Andrews, Joonsoo Kim, Alex Evans, and Goku Endo (all of whom competed at 2020 Nats) took part on Friday in a private test run in preparation for Monday's public exhibition.
Caitlin Ha is seen in the video accompanying the Insta announcement.

The show will last approx. 40 minutes, per Jordan's Instastory.

Thank you, Jordan and skaters. :dance2:

(I expect that Jordan also will archive the live stream, as is his custom.)

ETA (on Aug 17):

Excerpt from Jordan Cowan: An On Ice Perspective (new article):

.... What I am trying to do is grow skating’s fan base. ... I am trying to create a new audience for figure skating that I do not see anyone else trying to do — which is to create skating fans out of people who tune into figure skating at the Olympics, but are not die-hard fans who watch every competition and do not know who all the skaters are. ...

https://www.ifsmagazine.com/jordan-cowan-an-on-ice-perspective/ (Aug 15)

Although I always am happy for Jordan and OIP to receive well-deserved attention, I wish that the article had mentioned that crowdfunding is what enables a large part of his prolific Instagram and YouTube content.
When fans of Jordan have ideas for they want him to shoot, I just hope that they remember that many of his projects are a labor of love -- without a formal client who is compensating him for his time/skills/labor or who is reimbursing him for his travel and other expenses.
