    Iuliia Artemeva & Mikhail Nazarychev

Julia Artemeva (Russian: Юлия Сергеевна Артемьева) and Mikhail Nazarychev (Russian: Назарычев Михаил) are Russian junior pair skaters. Julia was born on March 16, 2005 in Kazan, Russia and Mikhail on April 4, 2001 in Perm, Russia. They teamed up in 2018 after Artemeva switched to pair skating. Nazarychev have had two previous partners Alyona Krokhaleva and Alina Mammadova with whom he skated one season each.

This team has had an extremely rapid progress because JGP Russia was only their 2nd pair skating competition ever and they already scored almost 180 points. Their first competition was last year's Russian Youth Championships - Elder age where they finished 10th. At that competition they were more than 40 points behind the winners of the competition - Stanislava Vislobokova / Aleksei Briukhanov. At the JGP Russia they beat Vislobokova/Briukhanov by 12 points. This is even more impressing when remembering that Artemeva was new to pair skating.

The team qualified and finished fourth at the Junior Grand Prix Final, and are junior bronze medalists of Russia, and 2020 Junior Worlds bronze medalists.

They are coached by Valentina Tiukova, Pavel Sliusarenko and Alexey Menshikov in Perm. Their training partners include Apollinariia Panfilova / Dmitry Rylov.

What a great JGP debut!! Really smooth and polished programs. You can tell that they are from Perm. At the moment they don't have a 2nd JGP event but I am sure that Russian Fed manages to find them a 2nd JGP event because this team can win JGP Final.

Amazing progress. In April of this year Artemeva/Nazarychev scored 40 points less than Vislobokova/Briukhanov at the Russian nationals of older age (junior B nationals). V/B were first, A/N were tenth. And five months later A/N manage to beat V/B internationally by ten points. They not only caught up, they overtook them. Wow!

117 points in FS and 179 points in total. Nice!! P/R are still the favourites to win at the JGP Final but A/N, A/K and M/M can challenge them for sure. It should be highly interesting and high quality event.

    - Was it easier or harder to perform in Zagreb? Your first stage of the Grand Prix took place in Chelyabinsk, you can say on home ice, but here is the start abroad?

Mikhail: It was really more difficult to perform in Zagreb, as this is a different country and there was no support from the audience ... due to their absence.

Funny, but so true. I wonder if he thought that every JGP events would have as much audience as there was at JGP Russia. If so, he couldn't have been more wrong.

Not very good free skate, but still they were able to gain bronze medal, even with mistakes russan junior pairs are just way above everybody else in this category.

Among the three Russian pairs they drew my attention the most - P/R are much more consistent and technically superior, but Julia & Mikhail demonstrate more personality and more expansive, that adds a nice touch to their performance, which sometimes lack in some of the Russian pairs. Although the field is tough, I hope to see much more of them in the future.
