For pairs skaters: When the program ends and you turn to your partner for intense conversation, are you asking your partner whether he/she fully rotated the planned SBS jumps?

Why do you bite your medals?
I can actually answer this! I'm not sure why this carried on to today, but back when gold coins were part of currency, you could bite the coin to test if it was real gold or just gold plated. Gold is softer than human teeth, so real gold would become dented from the bite.

Hair and makeup, for elite competitive skaters. I’m always astonished by how perfectly done everyone’s hair and makeup is at every competition. Do the skaters do it themselves, or do elite skaters bring hair/makeup/wardrobe specialists along, as part of their teams?

I'm interested too! I can barely draw a normal eyeliner when I'm calm, how do they do it in the Olympics? I know that Alina Z. had make-up artist from Shiseido with her at major comps, but Yuna Kim has said that she always did everything herself.

But here's an interesting video that I found: Mirai Nagasu showing her pre competition routine

I know that in the past US Nationals has provided people to do hair and makeup for the competitors.
(I read an article from an old Skating magazine from when they started doing it in the 1980s, and I overheard a mom of a novice competitor talking about it on a shuttle at a 1990s Nationals I attended.)

I don't know whether that is still true or whether other competitions do the same, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Alina actually does (used to do?) her own makeup, too. One of the documentaries (specials? not sure the name) on her that I saw said it's one of her hobbies and showed her (utterly drool-worthy ) makeup collection. She might have stopped when she became an ambassador for Shiseido, or maybe she still does with Shiseido products and the makeup artist's guidance.

We do it ourselves usually in a cold darker than ideal locker room or ladies room. Many of us ladies do our partners make-up too. Some do theirs in the hotel before going to the venue if they have the time. I've done mine in venue backstage hallways before a show before, figure skating isn't as glamorous as many think.

In a video interview, Tarah Kayne says that she does her make-up herself, and that she finds it a Zen process ... it calms her down.

Having spoken about Tarah, I have to say I think she goes overboard on the eye make-up, like some other female skaters. I watched the video of Marai, and I was very impressed. She keeps her features balanced and clearly there's make-up, but it looks more natural. She started out by saying figure skating girls have to learn to do their own hair and make-up from a young age.

That post a while ago got me thinking... how much is normal to be able to see when spinning? Is it just me and my lousy vision, or does anyone with a fast enough rotation speed see nothing but a big blur?

How do you deal with travel jet lag

You never get used to it. It's pretty bad and we deal with it just like anyone else.

Many times we have to push through and perform while dealing with it, and it's hard but all our past training for these things help us. Then we just sleep after .

(H)ere's an interesting video that I found: Mirai Nagasu showing her pre competition routine

 This is actually an ad for Allure beauty products, which Mirai endorces. The thrust is, if you buy these lotions and stuff, you can have beautiful skin like Mirai. :)

Michelle Kwan used to tell the story that when she first started performing with Champions on Ice at 14, her parents didn't allow her to wear make-up. She credits Nancy Kerrigan and Oksana Baiul with teaching her on the tour.

No. Allure is a well-known magazine (with an emphasis on beauty) published by Conde Nast.

AFAIK, Allure does not make the products that Mirai uses in the video.
And I doubt that she is a paid spokesperson for the products, although the video is good P.R. exposure for the products.

ETA:
A possible exception re Mirai not being a compensated spokesperson is KT tape, although I do not know whether her KT sponsorship still was in effect at the time of the video.
