JSF announces new international competition - 'Japan World Challenge 2005'

The Japanese Federation has announced they will host their own version of Campbell's International Figure Skating Challenge. The 'Japan World Challenge 2005' will take place on October 1st at the Higashifushimi Ice Arena in Tokyo.

The competition will consist of a free program performed by six men and six ladies skaters with three top Japanese skaters in each discipline. The Japanese Federation has announced that Fumie Suguri, Shizuka Arakawa and Miki Ando have been invited to compete for the host nation, with three international ladies including Irina Slutskaya whom the JSF says it plans to invite.

The goal is to provide more skating opportunities for the Japanese skaters and also the Japanese public a chance to see more world class skaters. This event will also serve as a warmup for Japan's skaters preparing for the Grand Prix Series heading towards the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turino, Italy.
