I don't know where this big copy has been lurking for the past three years. It originally appeared as a postage-stamp-sized print buried on the table of contents page in Newsweek just before the '02 Winter Olympics. Michelle was the cover girl for that issue, and the feature article about her included a two-page spread of her in another playful pose by the pool.

If Michelle has that body shape now, 3loop and salcow should be very easy for her and always landed in the long, and her overall appearance on the ice will be much more lovely.

 What a shot, Tim Duncan has nothing on you jesslily. A while back I read an article about some female skaters being too thin, and how unhealthy that is. 3 years ago the writer described the photo of a skater hanging onto a 6 feet wrestler as "anorexo porn" I will take Michelle Kwan current healthy looking body to the then 17 year old skater's "anorexo porn" looking body anyday.

IMO it is scary that young skaters are pushed by the media etc to be so thin, but it is even more unfortunate if a parent of a skater holds a view that Michelle Kwan's current body shape is unacceptable

BTW, you seem to have a very different take about the mastery of triple jumps in another thread

Yeah and she did so well at SLC when she was skin and bones and all she ate was diet coke and lettuce.

Were Michelle too thin in the picture? Or was she too thin in 2002 Olympic? I feel she was perfect. As a matter ofthe fact I never agree that skaters should starve themselves to achieve a nice body line. But on the other hand, if you gain some weight and lost a couple of jumps, and can not get the placement as before, that's something you should think about. Michelle is one of my favorite skaters, and I just wish her do every thing possible to get her totally ready for the third try.

Actually Jesslily, I think she's a better jumper and has better technique than she did in 2002, but it might just be me. She only seemed to have a problem with her salcow in at Worlds, but it seemed fine before and after (I'm pretty sure about this, but if I'm wrong please let me know). With her loop, it has always been a problem for her, even when she smaller than she was in 2002. Also, her lower placement in the 2005 worlds had more to do with her qualifying round than her weight and 2004 she probably would have second if she hadn't been deducted in the short for going over time (right?). Oh and in answer to your question, that photo was taken for some spread she did for the 2002 Olympics so it was about the same time. WHat would you say if the weight she is now is much healthier for her to maintain and keep her stregnth and she would have to practically starve herself to be where she was in 2002? I've always felt that Michelle would be naturally a little round rather like Kelly Clarkson (I shudder at the comparasion :disapp: ) if she weren't an athelete.

I think she looks gorgeous. I believe I read somewhere that Rafael wanted her to gain more muscles to increase her speed on the ice and rotate faster. The weight gain is attributed to bulking up and not fattening up, the way I see.

That is from a series of shots taken around the Beverly Hills Hotel pool in early 2002. Another one from that session appeared in Time Magazine.

If you want to see what looks like one of Michelle's nightmares, click HERE. I'll bet alot of skaters have dreams like this and then wake up screaming.

Michelle had very good triple loop a few years age. I wish I remember right that around 1998, she put two triples loops in her long program. It means she was very confident with the jump.
Many experienced skaters feel too much weight and strength work hurt their jumps.

Jess lily you contradict yourself

In her first message jess lily said "her overall appearance on the ice will be much more lovely."

Mk looks fine with her current wt, just look at the MTV pics. She has acceptable normal small wt fluctation from time to time. You didn't say any skaters have to starve themselves for body line , but you did say that her current body shape is much less desirable, blowing her minor wt fluctuation way out of proportion. My gosh she at most has about a 5 lb fluctation in wt. So scary that as the parent of a skater you can look at some minor variations in Mk's wt and find that so unacceptable

But on the other hand, if you gain some weight and lost a couple of jumps, and can not get the placement as before, that's something you should think about.

You just went on and on in another thread about how different skaters lose their jumps from time to time. Didn't your favorite skater with the "anorexo porn" shape body lost all her jumps at the beginning of last season?

Michelle is one of my favorite skaters, and I just wish her do every thing possible to get her totally ready for the third try.
 Nice save  Maybe the Heat or the Sun should hire you to coach their players to learn first the art of killer shot, then learn the art of saving the ball

Michelle did not put 3 loop in her program because her coach felt she may not land it in the competition from the way she practiced it.

Sasha suddenly could not land 3 lutz because of the pressure. If her coach knew she was shakey for the jump at home rink getting ready for the worlds, I feel Mr. Nicks has the judgement of not letting Sasha put it in the program at all.

Assuming you have inside information from Arutunian, did he said Michelle was too fat gained too much wt therefore she couldn't land the jump in competition?

I assume that people who post here at least watch nationals, worlds, and Grand Prix. And at least read skating magazines. All my "inside information'" are mainly from these resource. So Gezando, maybe you have more inside story which is Arutunian told Michelle" Michelle, you are too skinny so you can not land you 3 loop. It's better not to put it in the long."
