Does anyone know of any coverage on the internet for this event? Or, anyone from here attending this event who could post a report?

Not too surprised with the ladies results. That's about how I thought they would turn out. I am a bit surprised that Shizuka's PCS were higher than Irina though. Good for her!

And what happened to Johnny? I expected a better showing from him. :eek:hwell:

This is just a set up for the Olympics, as some people lead us to believe.

But it seems like the ladies put down great performances. Congrat's Irina and her free-program music sounds damn awsome, I hope she backs it up with good skating.

Slutskaya finished five points ahead of Arakawa even with a fall and even without winning the PCS. She must have skated an awesome program.

Can anyone read the pdf files with the breakdown of scores? My acrobat reader says it doesn't have the right font to display it (probably Japanese).

How can you tell this about her music by just the word "flamenco"? Is this the name, or the type of music?

Well I would associate Flamenco as being spanish, passionate and with lots of attitude. I think Julia Sebesyen(sp) skated to this last season or the season before that. I've seen a few ice-dance couples use flamenco type music as their original dance.
Her costume looks nice as well, it really fits right in with the music,

Hi MM. There was almost 9 points difference in base value from Irina to Shiz. Shiz doubled a Sal and a Lutz, and must have struggled with her 3 Loop based on negative GOE. Sounds from the reports though that is was a strong season opener in all other respects. Hope to see video!! Oh - I though I read Shiz tried a 3 /3 (could be wrong) but if she did try, must have been downgraded.

Irina's skates must have been on fire except for that fall. That was the only negative GOE element in her program.

Gotta run - more analysis later!!

The season is starting to look good for Slutskaya fans. Just looking at the judging protocols (thanks bdreampixie), Irina's program seems already to be in mid-season form. All she has to do is upgrade her opening 3Lz-2Lo to a 3Lz-3Lo, and maybe change her last 3T to a second 3Lz, and she has a jump content that no one else can beat even if they skate their best.

Shizuka's opening 3Lz-3T was downgraded to a 3Lz-2T by the tech specialist. This is not a good sign, since many critics have said that she always under-rotates this combination. If she can't get credit for the triple-triple without changing her technique, that is going to be a problem.

Still, with her high program component scores, she would have had a shot at winning if she hadn't doubled her last two jumps. (This also happened at the Marshall's winter cheesefest two years ago. Shiz had Michelle beat and then let it slip away when she doubled her last two jumps.) As near as I can count it, Irina's base value would have been 40.7 with the upgraded 3/3, and Shizuka's would have been 40.4 with a 3/3 and no doubled jumps.

Irina had one level four spin, one level three and one level two. (Not as good as Alissa Czissney at Ondrej Nepala last week, LOL.) Her spiral was a level three (Bielmann?), but her straight line footwork only a level one.

I wish Irina was coming to Campbell's to square off against Michelle and Sasha next week! Anything can happen, but right now it looks like both Michelle and Sasha will have to skate perfectly to keep Irina in sight on the tech mark, then try to win on the program components. What a season this is going to be! (Michigan 34, Michigan State 31, OT.)
