Lina and Max deserve their lead, a really enjoyable skate, hopefully they hold out for victory. As the previous poster said Vasilisa has grown a lot in the last twelve months, I wouldnt write them of yet though. A lot of the NA couples are quite close in height, it shouldn't be a reason for a team to fail, if they are both given time to adapt, hopefully they will come back strong. I really like them as a couple.

thats the thing height issues can be a problem with Pairs once they add difficulty, I do agree most of the juniors here are close in height Yu/Jin , the Canadians have short men
but the ideal size for pairs is still that of Fedorova/Miroshkin

Given how close the scores are (six+ points), it's still anyone's game. If they all score their season best in the long program, J/B would win (they have the highest junior LP score of the year, and are the only ones to break 100).

Ah well, I so enjoyed Davankova/ Deputat last season and there is still a lot to like in them this season. It will be too sad if they don't make it together.* :disapp: The rest of the Russian junior pairs teams here just don't excite me. Lina and Max are obviously very good and do all the elements well, but I dislike their costumes and I don't feel much individuality or personality in their skating as yet. They do look like a team that will make it for the long haul.

* If it's their height that has become an issue for D/D, what about a partner switch, i.e., Davankova/ Zakroev and Vigalova/ Deputat instead?

As far as I'm concerned Purdy/ Marinaro are the class of this field, especially in terms of style and maturity. I find P/M and also Jones/ Beharry much more interesting to watch than the Russian teams -- aside from D/ D (although J/ B have been partners for only a short time and need to show more connection with each other on the ice).

If J/B go clean in the fp, they should move up, and I hope P/M can pull up to win, but unlikely since it's taking place in Sochi, and F/ M are ahead by a good margin.

Yu/Jin were a bit robbed IMO. They have very solid elements and a nice style. Not the most exciting but I would have had them second honestly, narrowly ahead of P/M with the 2a mistake.

^^ Meh, the Chinese team has talent but they don't stand out much in this field, at least to me. The scoring is not all about technical mistakes, obviously. I haven't seen the protocols, but I would guess that P/M have good PCS, as well as positive GOE on most of their elements. IMO, as a team, P/M have much more personality and connection than all of the other teams combined.

wow, what a competition! I seldom watch juniors, but I like them all today! The two tiny Russian babies are just so adorable! I just forget how much height difference they have ( usually it bothers me when I see too much height difference, with B/S an exception). The No. 1 Russian team had such a nice program and they delivered, very deserved first. The Chinese team got the Second highest TES and the second lowest PCS. I think it's a bit low, but should serve as a wake up call for them, build more connection should help. The second place finisher, the Canadian pair have such mature style and it is hard to believe it is junior competition. They are lovely to watch and I really admire the male partner's strength.

A second look at the marks, the first Canadian team got the highest PCS, and the second lowest TES. I'm fine with them being the highest in PCS. What bothers me is that the second Canadian team got the third highest PCS, to me they were kind of messy, and mismatched in style. That performance by no means should be No.3 in PCS. The Chinese team did not have the flair but had much better performance/execution.

I liked the way the Canadians skated, both pairs, mature, lyrical, had connection...BUT this lack of difference in height messed it all...it was clear how HARD it was for the boys to lift or throw, or hold the girls....that ruins the impression a lot...the same thing with DD. The girls in pairs skating should fly!

exactly not much height difference will affect the throws and twists
look at Fedorova who is very short, she flies on the throws and the twits are huge
