I think it maybe a good idea to make a new thread about S.K National.:)
This time, they have admission fee just like last national which Yuna competed.
It's 9 dollars per day. This event will hold at Mokdong Ice Rink, which is the same place as 4CC this year.

Here's entries, event schedule and starting order.

The main points to watch IMO:
1) Can So-youn acheive goal: her first national champion?
2) Who'll take two tickets for junior world? (Senior world lady participants are already determined: So-youn and Hae-jin)
3) Who'll take one ticket for senior world (men)? (Jin-seo or June-hyoung)
4) Can jun-hwan Cha get the spot for national team before his junior grand prix debut? (If he can get medal or fourth place in here)
5) How young talented girls improved? (last national competition's junior medalists: Eun-soo Lim, Ye-rim Kim, So-hyun An) They competed Senior this time.
6) See new Ice dance and Pair teams. :cheer:

I think that's enough.

Thanks for the info!
Cha Jun Hwan has a good chance to medal. Kim Jin Seo and Lee June Hyoung are the only skaters that have clearly higher tech content than CJH, who doesn't really need to fully rotate the 3a or 3-3 to beat the other men.
I'm particularly excited for the pairs. Watched a bit of Choi/Manella's training vids and I'm quite surprised at their progress, since they are not just a new pair but also both first time pair skaters. KSU giving a call to Steuer was one of the few smart things they did.

Wow the event is packed!!

57 Junior girls and 36 senior ladies!!! Bit different from Yuna's days when there were something like only 5 in the national championship.

Figure skating is alive and healthy in Korea! Good luck everyone! :D

I am quite keen to see Jun Hwan do too, I see bit of that star quality I see in a young Hanyu :) They even got the same mushroom haircut!

you know what Asian male skaters are all mushrooms just different kind.
Yuzuru: button mushroom
jimbo: golden needle mushroom
Hanee: jellyfish (mushroom of the sea)
what kinda mushroom is baby JunHwan
EDIT: btw, we need a cute nickname for baby junhwan, his name is kinda long, any creative korean fans here please help.

it's gonna be a loooong day for those who's watching. Gonna light some candles for some good luck to everyone

Also, thanks Hailey for the info :)
do you also know if SBS/KBS/MBC is planning to broadcast some part of the events?

Also, I agree that they should do some preliminary contest or make one of the preceding competitions (ex. the Winter Sports Festival) be a preliminary competition. I'm also concerned on why can't they hold the senior events and the junior events at different dates....

KBS2 broadcasted it last year, so I expect them to broadcast it again. Information should pop up a few days before the event. I'm looking at some information from last year's nationals and there should be a livestream (probably geoblocked) and also a Daum Sports page where videos should go up (like at the ranking competition earlier this month).

I guess it costs money to rent out those rinks so they stuff everything within three days. I agree that there should be qualifiers, there are so many ladies entries...

Wow. Looking at the entries, I can imagine that Korea will be one of the stronger nations in FS in a couple of years.

This development would be quicker if KSU begins investing more.... :scowl:

Does anyone know how easy or hard it is for foreigners to get SK citizenship? I see that both pairs teams are 1 SK + 1 foreign male team. Will they be able to compete ate Pyeongchang?

^^ SK does not even have enough male single skaters let alone male partner for pairs and dance. As far as I know, SK allow dual citizenship.

It wouldn't be too hard; South Korea made it easier to get dual citizenship in 2010. Two of the categories that make applicants eligible for dual citizenship include:
1. Foreigners with exceptional talent and
2. Foreigners with important contribution to Korea.

I definitely think it's doable if the KSU pushes for it!
