I just got home from the event! It was my first live figure skating competition ever, and I enjoyed it so much! There's such a huge difference when you watch synchro on TV and live. I am so glad I could make it!
I was at also Canadian Synchro Nationals last weekend... some very outstanding skating coming from the Canadian teams. Nexxice Senior was defeated by Les Supremes, but I think if they increase the difficulty of their short program a little bit, they will still have every opportunity to place above them at worlds - their skating skills are truly best in the synchro world if you ask me and they were virtually tied with Les Supremes in the long program. The knee bend they get is sublime.
In Junior, Nexxice defeated two time Junior Champs, Les Supremes with two extremely polished and well executed programs. I think this year is the best I've seen Nexxice junior skate in a long time (it also helps that their programs are good as well). Les Supremes had a couple of rough programs that I highly doubt will be replicated at Junior Worlds and they should still do very well there.
Other stand outs to me last weekend included Les Supremes Open (first skate), who had the most entertaining program of the event if you ask me (to a Beyoncé medley which included a dance break near the end that was amazing), I also really enjoyed the programs from Nexxice Novice (second skate) as well as The Princelles Novice (second skate) and Nova Open (second skate). If you get a chance to watch any of those programs, I highly recommend it. The cheering award hands down goest to the Les Pirouettes parents and it was nice to see that Les Pirouettes junior are slowly but surely narrowing the gap between them at the top two junior teams.
Overall, it was an amazing weekend of synchro!
eta: I also was there taking photos and if anyone is interested, i'm posting a bunch on my facebook page...
