The hand movements are actually very intrinsic to Indian dance. The problem is more that unlike Meryl Davis, who worked with an actual Indian dancer, most skaters are just throwing the gestures in randomly, so they look stupid.

My point exactly! The movements may be right, but the way they are being used is not. And if you watch an Indian music video, and compare it to a figure skating routine, it's obvious that the skaters and/or their choreographers have just plucked one bit out, and not looked at the whole thing.

Which is why I think if you aren't going to use something properly, you're better not using it at all.

Skaters and choreographers should really study Indian music videos if they are going to do an Indian themed routine.

And back. I can never entirely sure because of sound sync issues, but it feels like J/N were skating to the melody in that first part and not the beat. Better in the second part.

That was a really weak choreographic lift at the end.
