After a one season hiatus, the Junior Grand Prix Predictions Game is back! :cheer:

Today is 10 days until the first segment of the Grand Prix De Courchevel, so now is probably a good time to kick things off.

The third edition of the Junior GP Game is going to look very different to previous Predictions Games. However, you will be pleased to hear that the changes are purely cosmetic. The process is exactly the same as it has always been; the predictions are just being submitted in a different way.

The only real change to the rules is that, due to complaints from quite a few players last season, the “special rules” that were used for the GP Final have been removed from both of this season’s GP Games. So, it is now the same rules for all rounds.

Other than that, the Rules are still largely the same as last season. So, like last year, I will use tulosai’s explanation as the basis.

Rules (slightly re-worded for the different way of submitting, but in effect the same as last year):

  1. Guess the Top 5 finishers in each discipline at each Grand Prix. Each event will have it's own dedicated form in which to make predictions. For handiness, I will provide a link to the list of the entries in the form.

  2. Although only the Top 5 will be scored, you are advised to include at least 6 skaters in your predictions lists for each discipline. The remaining skaters will be alternates in case any of the skaters you pick for your Top 5 withdraws or can't compete at the last minute.

  3. The deadline to get your predictions in is one hour before the first Short Programme of the event starts. If the pairs are first and they start at 7pm EST, you should aim to get your predictions in by 6pm EST.

  4. For your prediction to qualify for scoring, you must provide the full last name(s) in your predictions. The form for each round will include the a link to the entries for each discipline, so all you need to do is copy and paste. Abbreviations, nicknames, first names will not be accepted.

Editing / Changing Predictions

If for any reason you want to change your predictions for a particular category, you will need to submit a new set of predictions for that category. Please note that you do NOT need to re-submit predictions for the categories that you do not want to change. For each category, the most recent set of predictions for that category will be the set that is scored.

Scoring

Each correct guess is worth 15 points. If you guess Mao will be first and she is first, that is 15 points. If you guess Mirai is 5[SUP]th[/SUP] and she is 5[SUP]th[/SUP], that is 15 points.

Each guess that is one placement off is worth 10 points. If you guess Ashley is 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] and she is 1[SUP]st[/SUP], you get 10 points. If you guess Gracie is 5[SUP]th[/SUP] and she is 6[SUP]th[/SUP], you get 10 points.

Each guess that is two placements off is worth 5 points. If you guess Akiko is 4[SUP]th[/SUP] and she in 2[SUP]nd[/SUP], you get 5 points. If you guess Tukt is 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] and she is 5[SUP]th[/SUP] you get 5 points.

Grand Prix Final

For the Final round of the Grand Prix Predictions Game (the Grand Prix Final), the rules are the same as usual EXCEPT we are predicting on ALL SIX entries, and will be scored on ALL SIX entries.

These are the competitions that are rounds of the Predictions Game:

Junior Grand Prix Game

Round 1: JGP Grand Prix De Courchevel (21[SUP]st[/SUP] – 24[SUP]th[/SUP] August 2019)
Round 2: JGP Lake Placid (28[SUP]th[/SUP] – 31[SUP]st[/SUP] August 2019)
Round 3: JGP Riga Cup (4[SUP]th[/SUP] – 7[SUP]th[/SUP] September 2019)
Round 4: JGP Chelyabinsk (11[SUP]th[/SUP] – 14[SUP]th[/SUP] September 2019)
Round 5: JGP Baltic Cup (18[SUP]th[/SUP] – 21[SUP]st[/SUP] September 2019)
Round 6: JGP Croatia Cup (25[SUP]th[/SUP] – 28[SUP]th[/SUP] September 2019)

Thank you so much to the scorers of this year’s Predictions Games for making them such a success. This new game would not have been possible without you!

Good luck everybody!

I know the changes introduced in Predictions Game are for making the scorers' work easier, but I loved going through other posters' predictions and checking who had decided to participate. For me it was a sort of a social gathering. Now it's quite solitary: you copy the skaters' names and only at the end you see the names of other participants on a chart which with larger amount of posters will be difficult to read.
I liked it when somebody WD and there were immediate announcements or when someone made a mistake in their predictions and others corrected them. I even miss the Placeholder posts and the short introductions that many wrote just before putting their predictions :) Again, I know the change is for making things easy, but I'll miss all the buzz accompanying the predictions posting.

I don't think you could ever accuse the introductions I wrote of being "short"

To be honest, I am already starting to feel nostalgic about the old ways too. As you say, there was a buzz about the Predictions Threads. Although the purpose of the threads was to post your predictions in, it was fun chatting about the predictions.

And even though the Junior GP Game does tend to get fewer players, it is already noticable that there is a significant drop in numbers playing.

I will be going away on holidays for 2 weeks in a couple of days, which means that I won't be able to do any management while away. (That is one of the benefits of the forms - beacuse of the timestamps, they don't need opening and closing to prevent cheating during competitions, whereas the threads do). But after Riga, I think we should have an evaluation about how things are going.

Although the forms seemed like a good idea, this method has made the Game too clinical, and taken away a lot of the fun.

I am all for making the lives of the volunteer scorers easier, but the banter was fun. I always looked forward to CaroLiza_fan's analysis, and I enjoyed looking for new names I did not know about to pay attention to.

It looks like we can at least view who we and other voted for on the spreadsheet at least.

I think it is good to test the waters with the JGP and go from there. I am mostly just happy it is back this year.

I like it because you can immediately see what users predict to finish 1st, 2nd and so on. I never really wrote anything besides numbers and names so not much difference for me personally. Also, it will make moderators' work easier and we will possibly get results quicker (though it's bit inconvenient that one can't edit prediction, but maybe it can be fixed by submitting them right before competition).

This is my first time trying the game, should be fun! It was hard with juniors since there are so many skaters I'm not familiar with and I had a hard time picking 10 for each discipline. Then I realized later that only the top five are what counts so I didn't need to go so far down the line for alternates lol, but better too many then not enough I guess! I have a question about alternates - if someone withdraws does your 6th place person just take the place of the withdrawal or do all your picks move up? e.g. if your first place pick withdraws, does your 6th pick go into your first pick guess or does 2nd move up to first and so on? Just curious how a withdrawal is treated for the game.

Thanks for the game and all the work that goes into it!

Everyone below the skater who's WD moves up one spot! :)

I entered my predictions. Is there a way to make sure it is submitted and I can print my list off. I will probably forget what order I put my predictions in.
