Today is a special day for our commentator, Ria Schwendinger. It's her 22nd birthday!!!



So, before the live action gets under way this afternoon, let's take this opportuinity to watch her in action in the category that we knew her best for!

We will actually start with the final competition that she and partner Valentin Wunderlich competed in, 2018 Junior Worlds in Sofia:

This was where they achieved their absolute PB for the SD. Which is remarkable, considering they had to wait around to do their SD because of ice issues. Their swansong also produced their best positions for Junior Worlds, finishing 10th in each segment, and overall.

Their only international Gold Medal came in their penultimate competition, the 2018 Bavarian Open, which was held here in Oberstdorf. They won the Junior Ice Dance competition by finishing 2nd in the SD, and winning the FD. Unfortunately, there are no videos on YouTube.

Their absolute PB's for the FD and for Total Score came at the previous season's Bavarian Open. They finished 4th in each segment, and overall. Again, there are no videos on YouTube.

However, we do have videos of the competition where their achieved their ISU PB's for the FD and for Total Score, which came a month later at 2017 Junior Worlds in Taiwan:

They finished 13th in the SD; 10th in the FD; and 10th overall.

Since Ria is a "be nice" commentator, it would be remiss to not include a video of her being commentated on by the king of this style of commentary, Ted Barton. So, here are the videos from the competition where she and Valentin achieved their GP PB's:

They finished 7th in the SD; 6th in the FD; and 7th overall.

They finished 14th in each segment, and overall.

I completely missed yesterday, too busy with work to even realize there was a competition going on, lol.

I'm confused to see Stephane Walker on the ice. Did he switch to ice dance? I thought he was a single skater.

Just spotted Mr. Prins among the judges. Nice. He must be excited to see the new 'Dutch' ice dance pair. I'm not even sure if we've ever even had an ice dance pair competing for the Netherlands before, I mean, at this level??

I'm a bit sad, as Piper & Paul love to come to Oberstdorf and I wish they could this year.

By the way, that was my first time tagging somebody in a post. What happened - did you get an alert? Nobody has done it with me yet, so I don't know.

Where did Dolly Parton go to after the first couple of lines?! Really didn't like that second cersion of "9 To 5".

Sorry, Winnie, but I wasn't fussed on their routine (probably influenced by the music choices). But, I do like that we have Dutch representation in Ice Dance! So, hopefully I'll enjoy their FD more.
