The Santa Claus Cup is an international figure skating competition for Advanced, Intermediate, and Basic novice skaters and younger (chicks and cubs), as well as Juniors and Seniors.

Just a reminder that due to the younger age group competitions being held on Saturday and Sunday, the older age group competitions are being held today and tomorrow.

Today's action kicks off in 2h 30m from now with the Advanced Novices (1 boy followed by 5 girls).

Couple of girls that I'm interested in in this opening group.

The first girl to skate, Lili KRIZSANOVSZKI, is coached by 2004 European Champion Júlia Sebestyén, who I liked.

Apart from Bernadett SZIGETI (who is coached by Viktória Pavuk's sister, Patricia), none of the other Hungarian girls have ISU Bios. So, I don't know if Júlia has any other students competing.

And, of course, my fellow islander, Elizabeth Golding, finishes off the group.

Well, Slovenia's Manca KRMELJ was clearly inspired by Lilah and Lewis' Free Dance. Didn't like the remix that came in in the second half of the programme, though. But, it was a fun programme, nonetheless.

Now time for our favourite half-Russian, half-Irish skater!!!

Great skate from Elizabeth. (Was I imagining things, or did the announcer call her by the Russian version of her name?)

And she was absolutely delighted with her scores!!!

Into 3rd position.

I can't believe we are the whole way though a group, and haven't had any falls from the Junior Ladies yet. Shows the difference from the Advanced Novice Ladies, where they all had at least 1 fall.

We're back!

And there is another skater who interests me in this group - Croatian skater Hana Kosić.

I first saw her at the 2013 Golden Spin. It was around this time of year, and during the Gala she took part in this fun programme with Tena Čopor:

And I have been keeping an eye out for her ever since!

I spoke too soon when I commented at the end of Group 1 that there had been no falls.

Group 2 was looking very lacklustre. And then Hana came out and saved the day!

Boys but she has grown up in those 7 years! Where did that little girl in the Santa suit go?!

She skated to a really epic version of "Sweet Dreams". No idea who was singing it, but it certainly wasn't Annie Lennox. But, I loved it!!!

It wasn't a perfect skate. She had a few stumbles, including a hands down. But, she was certainly the class act of Group 2. By over 10 points, as it turned out.

She slotted into 5th place, 2 points behind the last of the Group 1 girls.

I really hope I get to see her again this season. Because I would love to get a chance to see that programme skated clean.

Wow, the first of the 4 Hungarian girls that are kicking off Group 3 has taken the lead by the relatively big margin of 6.3 points!

Now I understand why Bernadett SZIGETI has an ISU Bio!

Plus, I just saw that she was 3rd in Senior Nationals last season, behind Ivett Tóth and Regina Schermann, and ahead of Fruzsina Medgyesi.

It'll be interesting to see if anybody can get close to her.

Well, one of the remaining Hungarians slotted into second position. Cintia SZABÓ. But, she is only just less than 1 point ahead of the skater who kicked off the competition, Lili KRIZSANOVSZKI.

Does anybody know if the 2 Szabó girls in this competition, Cintia (2nd) and Jázmin (13th) are related? Or if either of them are related to the Szabó I found when I was searching for ISU Bios earlier, Agota (who finished 7th in Junior Ladies at the 2007 edition of the Santa Claus Cup).

So, we finish up with 5 Hungarians in the Top 6 positions, with my fellow islander Elizabeth Golding splitting them in 5th position.

Can't wait for the Seniors to come on!!!

Was that Ivett Tóth that they showed demonstrating her sprinting capabilities up on the balcony during the Group 1 Warm-Up? Loved the wave she gave to us when she spotted the camera pointed at her on her walk back.

Forgot that Dasa had that strange music. But, even with 2 points in deductions, she is easily leading.

The first of the Budapest girls, Regina Schermann, didn't have the programme she would have wanted. 2 falls in the first minute. Into last place.

Now for the first of my kids, Marilena Kitromilis.

After seeing this performance of Marilena's SP, I am more convinced than ever that it was nerves that got the better of her during the SP at the Budapest Trophy. Because this was much better. And she got a much better score for it.

She's still in last position. But, she is only 3.16 points behind the girl in front of her, whereas at the Budapest Trophy she was 7.45 points behind. Hey, she's not even 10 points behind the current leader!

So, she's got a good chance of improving her position tomorrow. Let's not forget that Emilea went from last position after the SP to 5th position overall at the Ice Star.

And speaking of Emilea, she will be coming up in this group.

But first, Eliška and Ivett.
