2021-22 GPF: Ice Dance qualifiers

With the six Grand Prix events concluded, the standings for the Ice Dance discipline going into the Final are as follows:

1. Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron (FRA) 30
2. Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov (RUS) 30
3. Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue (USA) 28
4. Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier (CAN) 28
5. Madison Chock and Evan Bates (USA) 26
6. Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri (ITA) 26

Substitutes:

1. Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin (RUS) 22
2. Laurence Fournier-Beaudry and Nikolaj Sorensen (CAN) 22
3. Olivia Smart and Adrian Diaz (ESP) 20

Interestingly enough, there's only one position that has changed from two years ago: back then it was S/B who made it and G/F who didn't. The other qualifiers remain the same. In all other disciplines, there have been substantial changes.

I like this line up. There's 5 countries in there, so thankfully no sweeps of the podium. I've never liked sweeps, and I never will. I wish S/B could have been there too (they're the Russian ID couple I really like), but it wasn't to be. Of course, that would have been at the cost of another couple all of whom I like watching too.

I feel for S/B and would have liked to have seen them qualify, but I hope they can now use the extra time away from competition to buildup their stamina and further develop their programs since they had a late start to the season. On the other hand, I am thrilled for Charlene and Marco. I was so sad for them in 2019 when they didn’t qualify for the GPF in Turin because they were dealing with Marco’s hand injury.
