2021-22 Grand Prix Final: Gen Info

The 2021-22 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final (and the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final) is currently scheduled to take place Dec. 9-12, 2021, in Osaka, Japan. It will be held with the approval and the assistance of the International Skating Union, organized under the responsibility of the Japan Skating Federation. The event is the culmination of the 2021-22 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating series in which the top six skaters/teams have qualified based on the scores from the individual Grand Prix events they competed in.

I don't think anything's certain in this situation.. we can just hope..

The ban is for one month. No one is going to make an exclusion for all the fans, skaters, coaches, judges, media etc. My best guess is that other countries will offer to take it over ....or it will be canceled/postponed. In two weeks we shall know much more about the new variant with 50 mutations. All we really know is that 600 people flew into the Netherlands on two planes from S.A. and 60 tested positive with 13 of those with Omicron. I hope they track where everyone sat and test the pax every three days for two weeks.

The JSF is planning to hold GPF in Osaka in a bubble:

The tournament is held in a bubble system where players avoid contact with the outside, including Japanese players such as Shoma Uno (Toyota Motor) and Kaori Sakamoto (Sysmex), as well as world championship champion Nathan Chen (USA). Top overseas players are scheduled to participate. The Japan Skating Federation said, "We will proceed with preparations while taking infection control measures in line with the government's policy."

Thanks. In a way, mathimatically, it will be interesting to see who comes down with delta and who gets Om. on the planes. Anadotal perhaps but possibly a measure of transmissability. Welp, I've been wanting to have a good cry out for a while now. Due to skater injuries, sudden coaching changes, worldwide pandemics, etc. The GPF being 'postponed', and more than likely canceled is as good a time as any.
