Part of me was hoping that Hanyu was abandoning plans for the 4A and instead getting his 4Lo and 4Lz back in competitive shape to challenge for the OGM. Based on practice reports, it looks like he's sticking with the plan to go for the 4A<< with step-out here.

Updated top Japanese Men's SB scores following 4CC and Olympics:

Yuma Kagiyama: 310.05.41 (Olympics)
Shoma Uno: 293.00 (Olympics)
Yuzuru Hanyu: 283.21 (Olympics)
Kazuki Tomono: 268.99 (4CC)
Shun Sato: 264.99 (IdF)
Kao Miura: 251.07 (4CC)
Sota Yamamoto: 247.65 (Warsaw Cup)
Sena Miyake: 240.02 (4CC)
Keiji Tanaka: 229.75 (Rostelecom Cup)
Koshiro Shimada: 228.77 (Warsaw Cup)

Some surprises here for me. I was expecting Yuzuru to be topping this list after the Olympics 🥲

I'll be honest and say I didn't expect Kao to be that high up, let alone the first alternate for worlds. I also didn't expect Sena to be in this list at all Congrats to them!

Also, I'm very proud of Kazuki for what he's achieved this season - he didn't manage to qualify for the Olympics but at this stage, in terms of SB, WS and overall consistency, he's effectively Japan's 4th man 🔥

Kazuki used to be a hot mess (but a delightful hot mess) but he's really found consistency especially with his quads this season. I can't wait to see what he comes up with next season :giggle:

Yes :love2:
It took him a few years to find his groove, but I feel he's finally coming to his own now. I really believe he'll be at his peak now in the 2022-26 quad as a mature skater

I'm torn between feeling jubilant for Kazuki who is finally reaping the fruits of his hard work over the years, and feeling gutted for Sota who is struggling and so far failing to make the top 6.
Hanyu is a genius, and Miura has big potential.
Tatsuya is one to watch out for, as he's learning stability under Kaori's coaches, and that can lead him far.

Can anyone help me decode this tweet? Is Shoma's long-time coach Mihoko Higuchi splitting from Machiko Yamada and leaving Tokai? https://twitter.com/mihok0higuchi/status/1503704445506699264?cxt=HHwWgIDSmb3Ond4pAAAA If so, I'm gonna cry for Sota's sake. Such bad luck he's had with his clubs and coaches so far...
I guess Machiko Yamada is getting on, and Mihoko Higuchi probably want to run things herself. Do we know whether Sota is going with her or staying with Yamada-sensei?

His Japanese fans think he'll stay with Higuchi, but no confirmation so far. What you say makes sense, but it still makes me sad to see how Sota hasn't been able to settle into a stable coaching environment since he left Howa. He's really been having bad luck, first Hayashi getting arrested, then things not working well with Onishi, and now a split in the Tokai team not even a year after he joined... -_- I hope this is the last big change for Sota, and he can thrive in a permanent environment from now on. 🤞

She may lose access to Nagoya Sports Center (aka Osu).
The rink is decades long base for Machiko Yamada, and easy to go (though inevitably congested).

I just checked the entries for Worlds. There stands that Shoma Uno, Yuma Kagiyama and Kazuki Tomono will represent Japan, Kao Miura and Sena Miyake are listed as reserves. If Kao is injured, who's next in the replacement list, Shun Sato?

Kao was previously on the entries list, but has been replaced by Kazuki. The next in line would be Sena. Shun is not an alternate for senior worlds I'm afraid, but he's been assigned to junior worlds.

Why not?
I can see that there are several equally good skaters in the age group that qualifies for senior as well as for junior WC and the choice has to be done in one way or another. Are there any specific criteria to decide who goes where?

Yes the criteria is the result of Japanese nationals. The original team was Yuzuru Hanyu, Shoma Uno and Yuma Kagiyama who finished in 1-3 at Nationals. The alternates were Kao (4th place), Kazuki (5th) and Sena (6th). Shun finished in 7th so he missed out on the worlds team, but got assigned to junior worlds instead.
