I find Anna perplexing. I loved the little girl skating to the firebird with the magical costume change. Sweet and innocent, who grew up to tell the story of a murderer and who now is seemingly skating as if she's gone evil and would sell her soul for the gold medal. Maybe I just don't get her programs but i find her BOW unsettling. She is a magnificent competitor and very emotive skater can she not skate to something happier?
Am I just confused because I don't get what she is saying thematically?

If I had to guess, Anna probably picked in on soft ice and it either shattered or just didn't grip and she fell. She might've been slower and more cautios on her spins to avoid mistakes on those as well, or was maybe just shaken from the fall. She's a fighter, that's for sure
I agree with the cause of the fall but not her spin. Her spins have been deteriorating for the past 2 seasons. I think I remember she was struggling to reach her skate for the doughnut spin last year and it is still not that great yesterday ( though it was fine today, but not the other spins apparently).

with some overlooked underrotations too, the quad flip looked like on the q, and the components too are very high even with the fall, there's a lot i don't agree with these scores.
The judging is confusing. I wonder if the judges were watching the same competition I was? Definitely uncalled URs for select skaters, high Goe on jumps and spins which weren't well executed. Favoritism shouldn't be this clear

I would need to check the video for the alleged URs. Everything else you wrote has nothing to do with the BV.

I actually have no problem with Anna winning because she landed 4 triples in the short program and 7 triples + 1 quad in the free skate. If she had done a solo 2A instead of that botched 4Lz she’d have gained around 5 points and been at 235 total which seems reasonable enough to me with one quad landed (certainly more reasonable than the 233 at Worlds with 0 quads landed). EDIT: to be clear I still think she got some gifts for the judges but I don’t have a problem with her winning the free skate is all, and I think her judging wasn’t extremely biased

However either Aliona was very overscored or Wakaba was underscored. To be clear, even if Wakaba skated her short program cleanly and scored 79.73 as she did at Cup of Austria, she would have scored 220.77 and still been behind Kostornaia. That’s right, Wakaba with 2 3As landed and two clean programs would have still been behind Kostornaia with no 3A in the short and a 3A< fall in the free. And that’s even before we begin to discuss the quality of the programs themselves...

Personally I was expecting this result so I’m not sweating it but I hope this clarifies the realities of the judging system to people who still refuse to accept that PCS is Political Connections Score.

Welll i'd also look at some of those edge entrances on the flips and lutzes then.

Also with travelling spins judges often consider downgrading the level if the revolutions aren't clear from a steady position.

I haven't read all the posts if somebody else noticed, but what is that grey thing on the ice during Kurakova's skate? Is it just something on the ice or something dropped off from someone's dress? IMO she tried to avoid it. I tried to scale the screenshot bigger, but did not manage to find out, what it is.

The triangular thing between her feet? Looks to me like a reflection of the tip of the logo above.

You are correct, but tech scores are just as manipulated with arbitrary q calls, URs ignored, edges called on some but not others, and crazy GOE. Unfortunately for Wakaba, this isn't just limited to international competition. She gets the same treatment from JSF compared to Sakamoto as she does against Russians.

That's what I figured

But I thought maybe they see something I don't

Like with the leg position or something
A more trained eye can spot the kind of thing your friend was talking about in real time.
For the rest of us, a slow-moed video or GIF can work wonders:

(I imagine such videos of the women are floating somewhere online as well... I've actually glimpsed one such video of a problematic triple jump from this season, that looked more like a double in the air, so they can be affected as well. Don't recall where this was, though.)

And the trained eyes of the judged aren't seeing it?
