The 2021 Santa Claus Cup will take place Dec 6-10, 2021, in Budapest, Hungary. It is an international figure skating competition for the Novice, Junior, and Senior levels in the Singles (Women and Men) and Ice Dance disciplines. The event will be conducted in accordance with the ISU Constitution and General Regulations 2021, the Special Regulations and Technical Rules Single & Pair Skating and Ice Dance 2021, and the relevant ISU Communications.

There's a Dutch girl in the Juniors I've never seen before. Admittedly, I don't follow juniors all that well, but this is a real surprise! There's another in Adv Novice but I feel less surprised, as I don't follow them at all.

You know the way that I have always found the names "Cubs" and "Chicks" confusing. Well, now we have "Mini Cubs" and "Mini Chicks".

Is it any wonder people get confused with names like these?!

I saw a sign earlier today encouraging folks to "Zoom with Santa" Dec 11 & 12 with a url link to sign up. Perhaps we could inquire.

Sorry, I pressed "Post Reply" in a panic there when the stream came on air and I saw Ice Dancers on the ice. And I thought "Drat! They're starting early!"

Then I looked at the screen and thought "They're too old to be the Cubs or Basic Novice Dancers".

It was actually the tail end of the Senior Free Dance practice.

There will now be a resurfacing, and then the competitions will begin in about 15 minutes from now.

Day 1 of the Santa Claus Cup is about to start. And today is all about Ice Dance until this evening, when the Senior Ladies have their SP.

First up, the Cubs Pattern Dance and Basic Novice Pattern Dance 1. We have a group of 1 Cubs partnership (who I suspect are siblings), followed by 2 groups of 4 Basic Novice partnerships.

The second intermediate Novice partnership (from Hungary) skated to the "Colonel Bogey March"... with French lyrics!!!

I never even knew there was a French version!

EDIT: Took a while, but I found it!

Thankfully, the lyrics they were skating to seemed perfectly clean. Unlike the lyrics that normally get sung to that tune in English...

You know that awful "I'm An Albatraoz" song that Olga MAMCHENKOVA / Mark VOLKOV (RUS) are skating to for their Free Dance this season. Well, the last Intermediate Novice partnership to go (from Switzerland) was skating to another song from the same artists:

AronChupa - "Little Swing"

Well, I'm now getting worried about my sanity, because I found that I actually enjoyed it. I don't know what it was, whether it was because of the bouncy nature of the tune, or the fact that it was younger skaters that were dancing to it. But, it just worked.

Anyway, the Advanced Novice Warm-Up Group 1 just coming to an end now.

The first Advanced Novice partnership to go was also from Switzerland. And they also had a strange music choice. A really slowed down cover of Daft Punk's "Get Lucky".

Is there something strange in the water up there in the Alps?!

Anyway, there is a break to proceedings at the moment, so I take it the second partnership (from Russia) hasn't appeared.

Onto the third partnership.

Now we have the final group of the Advanced Novice PD1, followed by the Basic Novice PD2. We have a group of 6 Advanced Novice partnerships, followed by 2 groups of 4 Basic Novice partnerships.
