Nice come-back after the SP for Matsuike! There were so many wonderful debutantes in this event with a slew of new personal bests for many!

Mihara now has four 4CC medals :)

"At the end of the year, I was very disappointed not making it to the Olympics," admitted Mihara, "but I wanted to participate in the Four Continents. I am very happy to be selected."

What are your thoughts on the Women's event? Which were your favorite programs?

Lets talk american girls. audrey shin has a future (and especially out of the 3 competing at 4CC) but did anyone else want to reign in her arms? The softness is fine but it felt like they were just waving at abandon. She look like she knew where her arms, feet , body were supposed to be and she was going through each sequence..but there was no feeling to the program. Well executed on the jumps and worthy of the score but needs some focused choreo that she can interpret. just my opinion.

Top 5 delivered amazing free skates. 4 girls with scores over 140 and SB for them all. My favorites were Mai, Rino and Haein. Very good competition.
Special congrats for Tara Prasad who was competing in her first ISU championship and who choreographed her nice programs herself. She has potential.

Amazing competition!
Aside from the performance, interesting, no calls on most of the under rotations. The stories of the technical specialist do not disappoint me.

Enjoyed it. Yes, there were some uncalled URs but the end result was fair.

It's heartwarming that two women who aren't able to go to the Olympics, Mai and Haein , got the two top spots here. Mai's FS was beautiful and Haein is my favorite Korean women's skater. Happy to see them shine.

Yuhana and Rino both had great comeback skates in the FS. Rino was perfect throughout and both got PBs.

Yelim was impressive technically! Audrey was nice to watch. She had quite a few uncalled URs but it was definitely better than early in the season.

Young was the only one in the top group not to skate to potential. I hope she has a better outing at the Olympics.

It was amazing to see so many clean performances and PBs. It was a great competition overall! :cheer:

Yuhana and Rino had incredible redemption skates. It was great to see them really attack the program and leave behind the disappointment of not only the SP, but the whole season for them. If Yuhana really is retiring, I will miss her and the joy and energy she brought to her performances (her PCS are soooo low for what she puts out there). And as much as the music confuses me, Rino's program was one of my favourites this season, and I'll be sad to see it go.

As Audrey went into her opening pose, something just felt different this time - I just had that feeling that she was going to surprisingly (and for once) nail it. And she did! Although she seemed to be taking her time on the elements which kinda took out the performance value at times, it was nice to see her finally skate clean, especially since the last time she did was 2020 SA and she had a rough season overall. With that score and talent, she's definitely someone to look out for next quad.

Young...for starters, that 3A entrance is NOT working. Period. I do agree that she should keep going for it as it's good practice, but that looooooong glide is 1) disconnecting her from the music, and 2) basically a slow buildup to a guaranteed failure. I still believe that she can bring the same fire she did in Skate America, and her SP is gorgeous - I want to see her finally skate it clean, hopefully at the Olympics. She still deserves to be on that team, and I hope KSU won't do something crazy now that she was beaten by several skaters not going to the Olympics (normally I wouldn't doubt but...it's KSU...:slink:)

I followed Yelim closely since juniors, where she was good but not really making a splash. So I honestly didn't expect her to be this successful in seniors, but here we are! She was always a strong technician, but really grew into a mature and elegant skater. While her programs are still too dry for me, I'm glad to see her finally on an international podium, and I hope this can be a big confidence booster going into the Olympics. (also please fix the lutz edge so we can always shower that insane 3Lz-3T with +5s pls i beg you )

Haein was a big surprise. She was the opposite of Yelim IMO - successful in juniors, a bit disappointing in seniors so far. I'm glad that she finally had her moment here and posted some high scores. Her skating skills are really impressive, and you can tell that she's working on both her tech and artistry a lot. Despite being the only Korean here to not be going to the Olympics, she beat both her teammates by quite some margin. Though I do still agree that the other two should still be on the team, I'm looking forward to seeing Haein at Junior Worlds! (also I love how she always screams on the final jump of a clean performance)

And finally, Mai! Let's first get this out of the way - I'm confused by why it seems like her final spin was overlooked by many, because she messed that up quite badly. The GOE was a bit generous, she still got a FS PB, and the ISU commentator was like "Wow, that was perfect, she could not have done any more" as if it hadn't been just 3 seconds after that huge mistake.

Buuuut all that aside, after constant 4th places with some 2nd places here and there, I'm so happy that she finally, FINALLY strikes gold. Since her record with 4CC was 1st-2nd-3rd, I was honestly scared that she might somehow end up 4th here  but she reclaimed that 4CC gold (and we finally see a winner's interview with her too!). As she was skating, I just felt even more heartbroken that she won't be going to the Olympics AGAIN, but it was inspiring to see her still skate her heart out even in the midst of that disappointment. :cheer2:

It was a very enjoyable competition, despite some of the big names not being here. Six near perfect free programs and top 4 were clean throughout both programs. With the quad revolution, top skaters performing like that might soon be quite rare.

I hope Haein Lee gets sent to senior, not junior worlds, it's the least Korean fed could do after her beating the Olympic team. I hope the same for Mai Mihara, her amazing comeback deserves to be seen by wider public.

Mihara was really nervous after two Korean skaters scored over 140 as she could not afford to make a big mistake as a last skater. She looked disappointed after her free skate because of a minor mistake in her last spin that was downgraded to Level 2. She could not hold onto her raised leg during the spin. But she somehow scored 145, one point short of her personal best record in 2017 that I personally witnessed. This is her second 4CC crown and we can enjoy Mihara a few more years to come. Mihara is getting back to her best form again.

Could only watch the top 6 but wow, that might have been one of the most enjoyable, least stressful competitions in a while. And the scoring seemed surprisingly reasonable as well, safe for a few missed UR calls here and there.

1. Mai: :cheer2:So happy for her. She seems to be the Deniss of the women's event - always ending up fourth. So seeing her win gold is all the more satisfying. Especially knowing what she went through and after the disappointment of not making the Olympic team. Loved the FS and I‘ll just pretend (like the commentator lol) that the last spin was perfect. Beautiful, emotional and buttery soft and smooth skating. What more could you want?

2. Haein: My favorite!!:love2: And she did so well! She struggled this season so I didn't dare hope for a medal at all and then she went and won Silver. I love her skating skills and step sequences and I think once she manages to be more comfortable with her technique, her artistry will shine even more. Spins need some work, though, they were veeery slow today. If only the Korean women had three Olympic spots, they deserve them so much…

3. Yelim: To be honest, her skating doesn‘t do anything for me but I can appreciate her great qualities. That 3Lz+3T is HUGE and I wish they could fix the edge so it could get the GOE it deserves. I also think she‘s improved a lot since juniors, especially on her spins and speed.

4. Audrey: That program is… weird but she did really well. I thought she could challenge for the Olympic team after Skate America 2020 but she's had some problems since. Good to her finally getting redemption.

5. Rino: Not my cup of tea either but she did a great job and I believe she earned herself a small ISU medal?

6. Young: What happened there? :( While I was rooting for Mai, I really thought she'd win. Her 3A doesn't seem to be working in competition at all and as others have said, her long, painfully slow entry isn‘t helping either. I hope her confidence isn‘t shaken too badly and she can perform brilliantly at the Olympics.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Starr needs a new coach and choreographer. You can tell she has the talent but, something just isn't clicking with her current team. She's running out of time to become a medal threat at Nationals. If she's going to continue, I hope she finds the right team. I wish her the best.

Disagree, I doubt Starr ever is able to get it together enough to be a medal threat at nationals, when was the last time she did a lutz, she pretty passively sat around while the US ladies were ripe for conquering and didn't improve, US ladies now have the likes of Lindsay, Isabeau and Mia coming into seniors doing quads and back-loaded triple-triples.

I totally agree. The current ladies without more than 1 Triple Triple will be an afterthought once our Juniors become Seniors. Fortunately, the US Ladies are figuring out that being pretty and having a nice tech content will only serve them locally. Once they get to international events, they NEED to have a big tech score to medal almost anywhere.

As the first alternate to the Olympics, I wonder what Mai will be doing now. If she returns to Japan, she will be subject to ten days of quarantine, leaving her in no position to fill in if necessary. Perhaps she finds some place in Europe to standby and continue training?

That's what I am wondering. If she stays somewhere in Europe, she can't train with neither of her main coach, who she is sharing with Kaori.
Not only Mai, but also Yuhana is one of alternates to the Olympics, even though it's second.
