happy to see Noah Bodenstein in men!

I was actually expecting you to point out that the Son Of Pharaohs was here.

Looking through the list, there are a lot of names that I thought would have been aged out of Juniors by now. But, it turns out that they are younger than I thought they were.

But the biggest surprise for me is that Ireland is represented in ALL categories for the first time!!! :jaw:

:cheer:   :party2: :points:

  • Robyn Foster in Ladies
  • Dillon Judge in Men
  • Laura and Kevin Hegarty in Ice Dance

Hard to believe that it is less than a month until we get going again.

Bring it on!!!

I think I can’t remember anyone from last year, unless Cha was that really young Korean athlete in men’s skating. So, it will be all new to me. Not too long to go now!

I know I’m not ready for the start of the tango marathon in junior dance 😆 but it’s fun to have many podium spots up for grabs this season! Maybe we’ll see more small feds getting their very first junior Grand Prix medals, even?

I think Mark's presence is a sign that more importance is given to the JGP circuit. Ted's style is appreciated by many fans because he doesn't speak during performances and always has nice things to say about the juniors, even the ones who are very not technically advanced. However, it gets monotonous and wouldn't appeal to a larger audience. I get bored with his commentary, or worse, I don't hear it at all because I tune out in the video replays when he is speaking (that's when I comment on GS LOL) ... so I think having Mark will be great as both of them can bounce ideas off each others which will provide a better analysis and a more interactive experience. I may even pay more attention to what Ted has to say, in a context where someone else is also giving their opinion/evaluation of a performance. I think it's a very good thing for junior skating, and perhaps raising the age limit has sent the message that Juniors will no longer be a mandatory quick stepping stone but for some, a longer experience... with athletes developing over the years and creating something for themselves already within the junior circuit... hence, the need for having a team of commentators and giving a bit more weight to the broadcast of the events.

Mark also brings dance expertise, which Ted will admit he's lacking. Ted's worst moment this season was IMO Russian Nationals, when the crowd loudly booed Zahorski/Guerreiro's RD scores being so much lower than Davis/Smolkin, and all Ted could say was essentially, "the judges know more than these people anyway and couldn't be wrong."

We won't have any moments like that on the JGP but it helps to have ID tech knowledge to break down what we're seeing.

How were the commentators today? I am still stuck at work, but hoping to catch up on at least the couple first groups of men… Mark is better than Simon at least, I guess.

Any chance we get to see more of the gala than in the backstage part 2 video? :(
They streamed both galas live last year and this year? Not even a re-live option?
